Dreger seemed to think it wouldn't end tonight...had a lot to say about this whole debate over pensions and how it's gotten very contentious. Nobody else had anything substantive to say. Only other funny tidbit was that they said that the two sides don't even meet in the same room anymore...they just fire proposals off to one another. Saw a group of players go by (Doan, DiPietro, Parros and a few I didn't recognize) followed a few mins later by Brothers Fehr. They didn't stop to speak with the media at that time but a few minutes later the media were invited inside. A grand total of about 9 fans were there to see all of this...shows how much the NY public cares about this whole thing...a lot of people walking by asked the media what the show was for...when they explained that it had to do with hockey the typical response was, "oh....*keep walking*"

The percentage of NY people who actually care about hockey is most likely lower than a good portion of the other nhl cities. NY just has so many damn people.

And that's a big 'IF'. I'm sure if 700 of the top players in the world were available... potential business owners would be looking to set up a new league.

Let's just get a deal.. ugh
I can think of a couple... but it's not as easy as people think to get billionaires to lose money, contrary to what some think...

To those NHL reporters complaining about the cold... My prairie soul thinks they should harden up. It's -1 C in NYC. This time last week it was -30C here. Sure, it's a dry cold but still... the wind. Oh god the wind.

Is the table and everything set up "just in case" or are they expecting something?

So the meeting has to end soon right? PA has to get a DOI meeting in before 12 no?

If they are liking where this is going, there will be no need for the DOI meeting.

I believe that the general consensus is that the table is set up for a "just in case" scenario.

Earlier tonight on Sportsnet they said something which I thought was a good point. If the NHLPA chooses not to file that disclaimer of interest would the NHL see it as a chance to try and take away some things in the CBA that they already agreed on? They figured since the NHLPA can't threaten them with anything like that could it be used against them?

Yeah, or maybe on a cold, winter night, people wanted to get home after working or keep going wherever they were headed rather than wait outside some office to wait hours for news that may or may not happen. Either one.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the PA could still file at a later date.

If the NHL stalled pas the deadline and turned around and pulled things off the table then there would be a full on labour war. Fehr would BURY the NHL in paperwork and court dates. we would not see hockey for another year.

Yes because Im sure everyone else in the SE division is saying "Oh thank god we get to see the Caps a million times!"

The caps are no better or worse to watch than anyone else in the division.

I know a lot of people won't like this but this is really setting up for another let down.

I hope I'm wrong.

Yes! A fight because of hockey teams allegiance. Miss those days.

not to mention that would prove the NHL absolutely isn't interested in getting a deal done and would hurt them in the court proceedings.

really the only let down is a blow up, does anyone really expect a deal tonight with all the issues they have left?

League is waiting for players reaction to their response tonight. Both sides are currently in caucus.

Exactly.

They would be handing Fehr and the PA the evidence they require in court. It would be a ridiculously poor decision by the league.

I hope that if they don't exactly like the league's answer... the players come back with a counter offer right away.

Since the topic was still brought up do you think there might be some owners out there who would risk it and do something like that?

If the PA counters, then I really think we're in business.

Also, the only updates we would get as this is going on would come from players in the room.

It was like last time when the red wings writer reported that it was going bad and everyone freaked out and the player in the room was Horcoff texting Cleary who told Helen St James.
