they can't come to an agreement without that extra step. likely means no negotiations at least for a few days while they have a cool down period and then have to have multiple days of marathon negotiatons. Thats IF the nhl is even interested if the PA file. It's definitely a bad thing regardless.

I figured its cause he couldn't get compliance buyouts removed from the deal

It takes normal people 20+ years to receive pensions in a lot of jobs. Its just another luxury the players are money grabbing about.
This, its quite sad that people can't retire comfortably with millions upon millions of dollars. It's always about the money

i'm so weary of all this crap, so I'm hoping for either a settlement or complete blowout tonight. But my guess is that we are going to hear that they had a frank discussion tonight, but still are unresolved issues

I'd prefer he doesn't talk about the lockout. He's been pretty pessimistic. Dreger kinda has too. Not overly pessimistic or anything, but both said in September there probably wouldn't be a season. Now Lebrun on the other hand has been pretty positive, and adamant that we will have one.

I agree its not a good sign but i think what hes saying is it could instigate a deal like the nba.

Although i dont really think so, but analysts keep citing it.

It's pretty sad if both sides aren't taking the other seriously at this point.

Can Fehr comprehend a calendar??

I understand both sides of this. Players deserve a pension. Yes they make millions (or hundred-thousands) a year, but they want that safe guarding in case anything happens with their money. I would hope that the NHLPA would educate players on smart investments, though.

But I also understand that the league doesn't want to be on the hook for a lot of this because it's money outside the system and frankly, players making millions should be okay for the rest of their lives.

My post was just deleted? I spoke with Dreger (albeit for about 15 seconds) earlier tonight (before the 8pm meetin started) and suffice it to say he wasn't in good spirits. For those wondering, the meeting is at 47th st and 6th Ave in Manhattan. This is the building next to the NHL store. Not sure but I would assume that this is the location of the NHL's offices?

I'm really getting sick of the excuse of players having short careers and "boo hoo" we need our pensions. Look if you can't save a bit of the millions upon millions upon millions of dollars you make in a 10-15 year career then shame on you. Pensions!!! really!! give me a break. That should never ever be the reason for cancelling a season. Players love to say "this isn't about the money" Well it sure looks like it.

It seems we are nearing some type of a conclusion. It seems both sides are finally acting like the game, its fans and the brand is important. I guess we will get to see how much damage this will do over the coming weeks and years, thats if they reach an agreement.

The NHL should knock 45% off the price of anything with an NHL logo on it, the owners should do the same with ticket pricing. Thats roughly the percentage of games they will not play this year if they drop the puck within two weeks.

Pipe dream, I know. I could care less anyways as I wont be buying a thing for quite a while, maybe until they can get from one CBA to the next without losing games.

Though, I will watch the local games on TV. I still like my local team (mainly for economic reasons), but I could care less about the league as a whole at this point or the players in general. I wont be doing any surveys for Neilson, and my personal viewership wont make them much more than Im willing to spend on this league anyways.

Are we looking at the PA making a last minute disclaimer tonight and hope that talks continue with the league so that they can make their final push before a proposal is agreed on?

I could easily picture Fehr calling Bettman on his deadline at this point. It'll be anyone's bet as to what happens then. If Bettman has to reneg on the ironclad deadline he may pay with his job. If he goes through with it well then they shouldn't come back until both of them are ruined from what happens after.

Fehr himself could do it at any time but they'd need another vote for the sham one.

Same here, I'm not buying a damn thing with a Leaf logo on it, or an NHL logo on it. This is so dumb

They want safe guarding in case something happens to their money? Are they man-children? If they cant manage their money that is no ones fault but their own.

There is no safety net in real life. This sheltered ******** needs to end.
