Washington wins this one if Mike Green is healthy.

I don't think people know how good San Jose's defense becomes with the addition of Brad Stuart.

Vlasic
Boyle
Burns
Stuart
Demers
Murray

Are you ****ing kidding me? What a defense. Show me one as deep as that.

EDIT: Actually, Vancouver and San Jose look on par, imo. Forgot they added Garrison, great depth as well. I honestly have these 2 defenses ahead of St. Louis and Los Angeles.

Did you watch Brad Stuart play last year? If he plays like that on SJ this year he might not even be an everyday defenseman. The Sharks have a very good defense, but it's not because of Stuart.

Edler-Garrison
Hamhuis-Bieksa
Ballard-Tanev
Alberts

That's a solid group, I'd definitely put them above St. Louis at #3 if it were me. We're quite balanced now with a solid shutdown guy on each pairing (Hamhuis, Garrison, Tanev) and a more offensive/two-way guy coupled with them (Edler, Bieksa, Ballard... Conventionally...).

Red Wings fans know how good it gets... and it's why Stuart's presence doesn't really affect their vote unless it's a "screw you, Stuart" vote. Stuart was the Wings' #5 most of the year and Quincey outplayed him as well after the trade.

Boston

Boston has something that the nucks don't, a franchise d man. our small edge in depth doesn't make up for it

then Washington imo

Boston. They have big bodies franchise D and they can just do it very well. I wanted to also vote for Chicago but Boston took it.

Nobody but Boston has a Chara, but that being said I don't the edge in depth is "small". I think Vancouver has a huge edge in defensive depth over Boston.

I don't see anything particularly special on Boston's D after the big grizzly bear.

Seidenberg is overrated imo, Ference is a nice piece, Hamilton has done nothing at the pro level, McQuaid is decent for the role he plays, very meh on Boychuk. Nothing bad about them, but overall very average I think. There's certainly not a Dan Hamhuis or Jason Garrison 2-6 on Boston, or even a Kevin Bieksa in their bottom 4.

Now a solid, not amazing but not terrible group of 5 + the leaning tower of death in the #33 uniform = very, very good. I'd put Boston at #6. So, I'm not saying they're bad by any stretch, but not elite imo.

If Chara ever got hurt for a long stretch that defense is in such deep ****. Vancouver on the other hand could lose their top guy, whether it's Edler or Hamhuis, take your pick, and still ice an excellent defense.

I would disagree there, because our d goes to **** without Hamhuis, especially Bieksa. Can't believe im saying this as a huge fan of Edler, but i think that he is getting overrated here, and is far from our #1 guy. He has the potential to be game breaking, but unfortunately is terribly inconsistent.

Chara-Seidenberg as a shutdown pairing has overly impressed me whenever I have seen them.

what kind of Vancouver fan am I?

Vancouver's defence got into major trouble after Hamhuis injured himself in the finals.

Boston's depth defenders are nothing too special, but I consider Chara to be the best defenceman in the world. Overall they're a pretty solid group that's fairly even with Vancouver's.

to be fair, this might be just because they (and Thomas) played the best series of their careers against Vancouver.

that is true, and has greatly influenced my opinion of them, but they are still widely regarded as an amazing shutdown pair
