Will a shortened season make a Stanley cup tainted?

If Your Team Won The Cup In A Strike Shortened Season...

this could be a possibility with the CBA talks going nowhere apparently...

so lets say they miss the first 25 games and your team won the cup.
would it feel just as good as if it were a regular 82 game season?
would you feel the cup was cheapened?

A Cup is a Cup & You still have to win 16 games from April on.

I'd celebrate just as hard. A cup is a cup.

Devils fans were pretty happy in 1995. Naturally there were some naysayers, especially after they missed the playoffs in 1996. I'd be lying if there wasn't a small sense of vindication of the '95 Cup after winning in 2000.

I'd tattoo an asterisk right below my eye to represent the tears every other fanbase would shed if the Canucks won.

What's funny is I had completely forgotten it was a strike shortened season until I looked it up prior to this year's SCF. People may try to use it as an arguing point for a few years, but time makes people forget details.

The answer is no, it doesn't matter. Unless it's the Nucks or Leafs. Then it's asterisk time.

40 regular season games don't mean a ****. On the contrary it may be even more appreciated because playoffs would be more intense and higher level than normally.

All teams play the same amount of games. Everyone is playing on a level playing field.
There should be no asterisk.. *Unless its the Canucks

If it is your first Cup, yeah, I think you'd rather it be done under normal circumstances and I think the next one (should it happen) would mean a little more. You saw it right up there from the Devils fan, I think this is accurate.

Besides, we have 2 other Cups that were won with the traditional 82 games.

The '95 season was shortened up? I only remember the '94 being touched by the strike, the year the Rangers won.

'93-94 had a full 84 game regular season: http://www.hockey-reference.com/leagues/NHL_1994.html

'94-95 was shortened to 48 games: http://www.hockey-reference.com/leagues/NHL_1995.html

Sure, without all those October wins 2010 would've blown.

It would be about 0.5% less satisfying than winning the cup in a full season. But still, 99.5% is pretty damn good!

I'd be extremely happy of course but I can just imagine the conspiracy BS flying around in full-force if Crosby and the Pens won another Cup after a shortened season.
