If people are afraid of Jack Johnson, why would people want Buff on the team? He's among the worst positional d-man, and lateral skater in the league. On the big ice I think he'd get absolutely TORCHED.
Plenty of guys who are good offensively. I can't imagine wanting Buff on the ice against the firepower that CAN or RUS will have.
Buff would definitely need to get reined in, but that would be the case even if it wasn't on the big ice. I'd play him on the wing, especially on the PP.
Wheeler was terrific from about xmas on last year. A line of him, Kesler & Kessel would be a real handful....
Can a more informed international poster give projected roster for Team Sweden & Russia? Seems like gaps in net for Russia, and the blueline for both rosters, but maybe there are players I'm overlooking.
Daniel Sedin - Henrik Sedin - Gabriel Landeskog
Loui Eriksson - Henrik Zetterberg - Johan Franzen
Patric Hornqvist - Nicklas Backstrom - Marcus Johansson
Alexander Steen - Patrik Berglund - Carl Hagelin
Victor Stalberg - Mikael Samuelsson - Daniel Alfredsson
Oliver Ekman Larsson - Niklas Kronwall
Erik Karlsson - Alexander Edler
Tobias Enstrom - Victor Hedman
Niklas Hjalmarsson - Jonathan Ericsson
Henrik Lundqvist
Andreas Lindback
Jonas Gustavsson
something like that.

I swear 2 god, if they don't put the sedins with somebody good this time around, I might flip my ****.
Remember last Olympics? they had one shift with franson, which scored a goal and they kept playing them with some scrub from the KHL.

Who saying this team is awesome? It's probably the 3rd or 4th best of the international teams.
Hardly. I freely admit Canada is better. Everyone knows this. I just find it comical that certain Canadian posters feel the need to take shots like that in a thread that's not about their team.
If you don't want your team to be compared to others, maybe it's time for you to log off of this website and never log on again. Comparisons are inevitable, get over it and stop being so butthurt.
I'd take Stepan over Wheeler as the 13/14th forward. Hell, 2014 Derek Stepan might be better than 2014 TJ Oshie. I might take 2014 Kreider over 2014 Wheeler too.
I also think we might be able to convert Kane into that 1C we need, but if we're in the gold medal game or a similar clutch situation I'd let him play his natural wing position.
I'd roll with
Parise(C)-Kane-Kessel
Ryan-Stastny-Pavelski
Brown-Kesler-Pacioretty
Stepan-Backes-Callahan(A)
Kreider-Dubinsky-Oshie
Suter(A)-McDonagh
Yandle-Bogosian
J. Johnson-Carlson
Byfuglien
Shattenkirk
Quick
Howard
Miller
PP1
Parise-Kane-Kessel
Kesler-Suter
PP2
Ryan-Stastny-Callahan
Yandle-Byfuglien
(Callahan is a beast on the PP. 12 goals on the man advantage last year)
PK1
Kesler-Parise
Suter-McDonagh
PK2
Backes-Callahan
JMFJ-Carlson
Just cause we have that depth, PK3
Pavelski-Brown
Yandle-Bogosian
Looks good but I think I'd have Jimmy Howard over Cory Scheidner as the backup goalie.

Exhibit A as to how hockey doesn't matter on ESPN:
Last night an ESPN program was discussing how the Detroit Pistons needed a hero citing the heroes on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and no mention of the Detroit Red Wings. All this despite the Red Wings probably being the most succesful team in Detroit right now.
Heard that in 2010 as well, and I actually think this U.S. team is better on paper.
Yep and yep. Not sure the 2nd pairing is going to be quite ready for prime time just yet, but that can always be a 3rd pairing. And there are numerous other quality dmen to select from that could crack that pairing (Bogosian, Fowler, Faulk, Gardiner, Orpik)
#3 goalie won't matter much (Schneider), so might as well go with him if he's playing like he did last year.
Price would be in net most likely. And Seabrook would make the team.
True, forgot about Seabrook. I think Del Zotto is going to be really good soon and fast.
If Brodeur can't play, I would've put Price. For now I think the starter would be Fleury and Luongo with Brodeur as a replacement if he is too old (did I just say that?)
Price would be in net most likely. And Seabrook would make the team.
I think the bigger missing player on the proposed Canadian blueline is Doughty.
Thanks to the posters who put up the likely candidates for the other countries. Just from looking at those potential rosters, I feel pretty confident in saying there would be at least the 4 teams listed are capable of winning it all. I also think that for people questioning JJ & EJ on team USA, those players are equivelant or better than d-men listed on other rosters (RUS: Nikitin, Tyutin, Orlov, Kulikov - CAN: Letang, Campbell, Phaneuf - SWE: Hedman, a young OEL).

Doughty is inconsistent. Even great players like Mike Green get snubbed from voting.
I didn't say this WOULD be the roster, I said it should be. If they want to win, that is.
Doughty has been absolutely awful at times.
Doughty is also coming of an absolutely DOMINANT run to being a key part to winning the Stanley Cup.
Obviously - it's your "proposal" so you can include whomever you want. I just think that Doughty (and Seabrook to a lesser extent) would be a slam dunk addition over guys like Campbell, Letang & Del Zoto. I know you said you're expecting MDZ to take the next step, but Doughty was IMO the best d-man for Canada when they won the Gold in 2010, and IMO he's about a big a lock as there is for Team Canada.
Neal, Crosby, Stamkos
Sharp, Toews, Giroux
Spezza, Getzlaf, Perry
B. Richards, Staal, Iginla
Nash
Weber, Keith
Letang, Campbell
Phaneuf, Del Zotto
Fleury
Luongo
Brodeur
Ummm John Tavares?? 8th in the league in scoring last season? one of the best centers in the game? I know Canada is deep but 0% chance he's left off the team
