From what I have seen myself *(which is no where near your viewing credentials) but what I have also heard from others... the guy is weak off the puck. NOT reliable in his def responsibilities too.

I too think Derek Stepan should be considered in this line up, at least a 13th fwd. Hes young, but plays a mature game. Well rounded and his best attribute is his positioning and toughness. Top 2 center on one of the best teams in the league and his play will only grow from there. His defensive game is just as good, constantly in the right spot at the right time and a strong face off winner. 2014 comes along, Derek Stepan will be a strongggg player for the Americans and one that they will think twice before cutting him.

Last year was the first time Blake Wheeler has surpassed 55 points. 55 points is what Stepan received in his 2nd year. He went from 45 points to 35 and then again. Being traded by an eventual Stanley Cup team.

Stepan also had a better WC tournament in 2011 than his teammate Wheeler.

Also Stepan can play both wing and center. Where Wheeler has been known to only be comfortable in wing. Stepan can play the PP or the PK. Hes willing to drop down to block shots. Also 4 years younger. Faster.

He improved 1000% over the course of last year & became far & away the Jets' best forward. He's uncheckable when he wants to be. He's quick, strong, & great with the puck. Trust me, you guys want him. If he plays anything like he did last year again this year, the States would be nuts not to take him.

But by all means, don't. I'd rather Canada play against Stepan.

Am I in the minority that thinks Shattenkirk is easily better than both Johnsons? Does he get underrated because he plays with/behind Pietrangelo? IIRC, they aren't usually paired together; correct me if I'm wrong Blues fans.

If he comes out of the gate hot, he could make some serious noise this year.

That 4th line would be an absolute nightmare to play against.

Also, I think they should run Stastny between Parise and Ryan, then Kessel with Kesler and Kane, and Pominville, Pacioretty and Pavelski on the third.

And I also think Alzner has a better shot then Shattenkirk to be the 7th.

Shattenkirk should be the 4th dman with McD. One of the Johnson's as the scratch

That second line will be dangerous. All three can light the lamp with ease.

If Carlson keeps up his current level of play, the US is going to need to expand their search for RD.

Imo, this USA-team is right there with top-4 (USA,Russia,Sweden,Canada). And I believe they will have excelent chemistry and each player has a lot to shown for.

And after seeing Shattenkirk live during the lockout, I would take Shattenkirk over both Johnssons. But that's just me

Goligoski, Wisniewski, and Carle probably deserve to be in the conversation, but a lot will depend on how small Team USA is willing to go on D.

Suter and Yandle are safe, but the other 4-5 spots are very open. I dont think you can leave Bfug off of the roster whether he is the exrta man or not. A lot to be decided IMO, but lefty depth after Suter leaves a lot to be desired. McDonagh, JJ, Goligoski, and Fowler all have their question marks.
The question about McDonagh and Carlson is how great are they going to be. Not if they are ready for this competition. McD is a shut down stud. None of the great players in the world are comfortable coming down the right side with him there waiting.

As a Canadian, I hope Craig Anderson isn't in net.

They typically don't play together because both prefer to play on the right side. With PK and PP though they both play over 25 minutes.

But I agree he is better than both Johnson's and anyone who has him outside their top 6 is a lunatic.

As an Avs fan, I'll admit that Stastny probably hasn't been good enough this season to be on the team. Though he's still a good play-maker and would probably do better on USA compared to Colorado where he playes with a drunk and a player acquired from waivers on his line. Still, I don't like it.

Erik Johnson though is still deserving, ahead of Carlson, Shattenkirk ahead of Carlson as well atm and I'm not even a big Shattenkirk fan. I haven't seen Bogosian since he returned from injury but based on last year, he'd deserve a spot.

JVR will play his way on to this team by next year, especially if his chemistry with Kessel continues to grow. Has been one of the Leafs' best players this year.

How these lists don't include Bogosian is a mystery to me

1) He's played 2 games in the past 10 months

2) He's on some lists

3) Lots of better choices out there

Mystery solved?
