Mine's were Kamensky, Sakic, Forsberg, Kariya, Blake, and Sundin. I'm an Avs fan so that's why 4 of them are on there though Blake joined in the 2000s. I grew up watching HNIC so Sundin was the only notable Leaf in the late 90s once many of the others like Wendel Clark were fading or Gilmour being moved around. Kariya was fun to watch and just a nice guy who played for Canada as well. One more I'd maybe add is Theo Fleury. I didn't see him that much but youtube now and even from back then I remember he played with a lot of intensity despite the small size Watching videos now it's really fun to watch some of the smooth skating dmen who can move the puck and provide offensively like Bourque, Leetch, Zubov, Ozolinsh, etc. You tend not to pick up on that stuff as much when you're young.

Just to get an aggregate list thing going, here's a list of very notable retired players to play in the 90s (it's probably missing some notable ones but these guys all had decently lengthy NHL careers and were good at some point). The ones around the beginning all played good chunks in the 80s as well and retired in 2000 or before but played a decent amount up to 96/97 so I included them. Someone who wants a project should do a ranking of the 90s top 100 ....I was still a kid so don't remember it clearly enough.

Very tough to do a favorites vs least favorites but a few I guess (a few might not be 90's)

Favorites: Stu Barnes, Howerchuk, Richer, Claude Lemieux, Marty, Selanne, Flatley, Nicholls, Leetch (even though I was a Devils fan), Kasper (Steve that is, hated Kasparaitis), Oates, both Phil and Ray Bourque, Dan Quinn, Claude Lapointe, Tim Taylor

QuietCompany - I hate to be a jerk, but those screen-dominating lists aren't particularly useful.

It's a reminder to me of all the non-all star players of the time. The mid to late 90s is when the dilution problem no longer started to exist in my opinion and there was as much competition if not more for any spot than there was in the O6.

Peter Forsberg

Eric Lindros
Jaromir Jagr
Pavel Bure

Teemu Selanne
Jere Lehtinen
Alex Mogilny
Zigmund Palffy
Ron Francis
Joe Sakic
Petr Bondra
Rob Blake
Ulf Samuelsson
Sergei Fedorov
Sergei Zubov
Alexei Kovalev
Pat LaFontaine
Miroslav Satan
Paul Kariya
Mats Sundin
Vincent Damphousse
Adam Oates
Owen Nolan
Michael Peca
Brett Hull
Bryan Marchment
Al MacInnis
Phil Housley
Gary Suter
Paul Coffey
Patrick Roy

Sure I'm still missing a couple. Wanted to leave off any Flyers during that time because the list would be way too long. Lindros however was an exception because he was easily one of my top three favorite players of all time.

Yes, I'm a Stars fan but I'm a little surprised I haven't seen Modano make anyone's list. I'm not saying this to be "that guy", I'm genuinely interested in why people didn't find him an interesting or exciting player to watch.
