Might be a bit "out there" but i`ve been brainstorming today (sunday at work, nothing better to do).

Parise-Koivu-Zucker(Coyle?)
Coyle(Zucker?)-Granlund-Heatley
Bouchard-Brodz-Clutterbuck
Powe-Konopka-Cullen

Suter-Brodin
Gilbert-Scandella
Despres-Spurgeon

(Falk has been decent but...yeah...)

Backstrom
Harding

Seto and his BFF Mitchell off to penguins for Despres + ? if it happens (if not then this is pretty pointless ).

Then again, Parise-Koivu-Heatley has been pretty good and now second with Cullen down and Bouchard on it might lift it up. How ever, if you are going to tinker with the lines, it should be done now. It get`s harder and harder to tinker with the lines, unless we have injuries.

First post ever, Please be gentle.

You're missing Stoner from the lineup... he would still be ahead of Falk. Also not sure if we're going to see Brodin paired with Suter this year... I see Brodin sticking on the 2nd pair for now, and Yeo said he likes to match a big body like Stoner with Brodin's style as well... so that makes me wonder of Despres would actually be on the 2nd pairing with Brodin.

Something more like...

Suter-Gilbert
Despres-Brodin
Scandella-Spurgeon
Stoner
Falk

I think it'd have to be Coyle on the first and Zucker on the second to balance those lines a little bit.

Scandella above Spurgeon and Despres. Don't see that. Plus, trading Seto and Mitchell for a 3rd pairing D doesn't seem worth it.

Despres is being way over rated by people. Kid has shown nothing for the value people are trying to demand for him.

I don't see it either. And as much as we could use defense, can't exactly sacrifice the offense in Setoguchi. Even though it might be less than expected.

With Zucker, Larsson, Coyle waiting and Zucker and Larsson looking ready right now... I don't think that's sacrificing offense at all IMO. We're using a position of depth to help create depth at a very thin position.

IMO we don't lose much if any offense and we gain defense.

Have you seen Prosser play?!!? Despres is better... he's also better than Falk and "maybe" better than Stoner.

So yes, we gain defense... and at the same time we gain even more "potential" from that defense.

I've never seen Despres play. Sounds like there are mixed opinions about him.

I like how you had to point out Despres is better than Prosser. Like that shows anything.

No, Wilson thinks James is going to be a great hockey player... he traded a 3rd rounder for him if you recall.

And Gillis seems to think Barker is still an NHL defenseman when most people think he's not even good enough for the AHL.

Opinions vary.

This. Why do we even need him anyway? We have Suter, Spurgeon, Gilbert and Stoner solidified as four of our seven d-men already, Brodin doesn't look out of place so I think he'll stay, Scandella seems to be well-liked by Yeo and many others (not necessarily me but whatever), Falk is a decent bottom pairing/extra d-man, and Dumba will be here in a year or two. I see no reason to trade an established forward like Seto for a prospect. Now on the other hand, if it was Seto for Niskanen. . . . . . .

Yeah, because Prosser was the only player I mentioned....

The only reason I said "maybe" better than Stoner... is because Stoner has actually played pretty well so far this year... so it's not so cut and dry without seeing more of both of them.

Seeing the defense of the signing as being "ok because he'll be the 8th Defenseman" is saying that they think he belongs as an 8th defenseman in the NHL. As I said, most others say he's not even good enough for the AHL. That is a big difference.
