Crosby has been training and is physically on another level than before. Also recovered from injuries. Malkin was tearing up the KHL, he was the best player last season also Worlds don't see him getting any slower. Pittsburgh will be a top dog, it's obvious

Not sure I like the 2nd unit much at all. Might have to adjust the Granlund point projection down a bit.

I'm guessing Brodziak in front of the net, Granlund on the half-wall or below the goaline and Setoguchi floating around trying to find open space for a quick shot.

Heatley-Koivu-MiG for the 1st

that would be so much fun to watch. basicly, you can't leave heatley alone for a second.

And they have what defense? Letang?

Woo... effin... hoo...

Sorry, the same Penguins that we saw take a bow in the first round of the playoffs are what we can expect to see again... I have zero confidence in their defense or on Fleury. Vokoun? Puh-leaze.

We'll see how they do against teams that will be more stacked on D.

Frankly, the same can be said of Philadelphia, imo. Without Pronger... That club is hurting on D, but yeah, they do have Bryz... wait, I can't say that with a straight face.

I like this unit and it's what I'd do. Granny will be playing against their second-string PK guys, or guys worn out from playing the first unit. This will help him, I think, gain confidence in becoming an offensive catalyst.

Did anyone catch Lou Nannes take on the line match ups last night? He would like to see Heater-Koivu-Bouchard for one line and Seto-Granlund-Parise as the other. His reasoning which I have to admit is sound was Seto-Granlund-Parise would be a super fast line and the other would be more of a physical line. He also pointed out that he thinks Granlund can be more creative than Koivu which will help Parise out more. Honestly between these 6 guys you could come up with 5 more match ups that would still look great.

Assuming Butch is healthy, I would draw up the lines quite differently then most.

Parise - Koviu - FBJ
Butch - Brod - Heater
Seto - Cullen - Clutter
Powe - Konopka - Mitchell
Kassian

Reasoning (IMO):

- I see a healthy Butch as one of our best offensive forwards
- I believe Seto is best suited for a third line role
- I love Brodziak (plain and simple)
- I would like to see FBJ put in the best position possible to suceed

I would like to see FBJ in the position to help team as much as possible and I would like to believe it's at center.

edit: though I actually like your lines. I still want to give Seto chance in the top6.

Seto-Cullen-Clutter?

I don't think they'd mesh too well together. It might or might not work. And I wouldn't like to see Bouchard on top-6 as for now. He should start with less minutes and gradually work his way up if he can handle it. No use to make him play tough minutes and get hit again.

With all of the new faces, this could probably be the tagline for any of the line combinations we come up with.

The downside with putting Butch on a third line is if you intend to use that as a matchup against the other teams' top lines, you're putting him in a poor position to succeed. He's not big, physical, or outstanding defensively. If he gets the puck he can eat up time and make things happen, but without the puck he's not an impact player. Against top competition he'd have the puck a lot less.

Butch on the third line makes it seem we're trying hard to turn it into a scoring line...the scenario where I think Clutter becomes more valuable as a trading chip and where Palmieri would look good with Butch. edit: and I think they keep putting up Koivu/Parise against the other teams top lines, because Koivu and Parise are outstanding defensively while also able to score at a top line rate.

Granlund isn't particularly fast though?

I think you have to keep Koivu and Parise together. Those two's fore-checking and defensive abilities will make life hell on opposing lines.

This organization has been looking for a 2nd top-6 center for its entire life. Then, we get a top-5-in-the-world prospect who just happens to be a center.

And people want to use him as a....................winger.

Sure, if there was anybody else competing with him for that spot, then maybe. But there isn't and there won't be for a long time. So he's going to play center.

Offense:

Parise - Koivu - Bouchard
Setoguchi - Granlund - Heatley
Cullen - Brodziak - Clutterbuck
Mitchell - Konopka - Kassian

(Bouchard and Cullen don't really fit on this team. Bouchard had great chemistry with Koivu at one time and if he's relegated to the third line (like Jarick mentioned), we're in trouble. I'm not too keen on Cullen being anywhere in the lineup but if he's on the third line and Brodziak were to get kicked out of the faceoff dot, that'd be the one bonus. Ha! Also, I'm sure there are some interchangeable parts as far as the 4th line is concerned - Dowell and Veilleux.)

Defense:

Suter - Spurgeon
Scandella - Gilbert
Stoner - Falk/Prosser

(Quite frankly, I'm probably one of the most critical of our defense. Yes, I'm excited about the arrivals of Brodin and Dumba at some point and I'm elated about signing Suter. Other than Gilbert, I'm not a fan of the rest of the players mentioned above (especially Prosser). I understand that Spurgeon has done more than we ever would've guessed, and if Scandella could avoid injury / stay consistent, I'd be far less critical of him. Falk is either really good or really bad, and I think at some point in the year, they should try Gilbert with Suter even if it's too top heavy of a pairing.)

Goalies:

Backstrom
Harding

Just read that, looks like if Dumba gets a shot it's going to be shorter than usual.

Could be useful if Scandella isn't quite ready but close and they decide not to make a move for another D. Guess we will know in a couple weeks.

I'm not into the idea of having Dumba in the line-up, even for six games. It's a shortened season and every game is even more important than in a full-length season. Only if he proved that he's good to play in juniors I'd give him a shot.

I think the reasoning behind Cullen on Granny's wing is
- he's solid as they come
- history of being good out of the gates
- ability to take face offs. Granlund will face difficulties
- balancing the line out nicely

I actually like Yeo's lines to start with. I also think that it wont't take too long before MG is seeing minutes on the 1st PP unit.
