My question to you is this: Why are you, as a fan, opposed to revenue sharing (assuming you are)? If it can help eliminate the lockouts, I'd be allllll for it. Screw the owners and their needs, I care about my needs as a fan, and I "need" to watch hockey. That's my stake, and I'm down for anything that allows that to happen. As I see it, a good revenue sharing program accomplishes that, when paired with the player pay reduction. Player pay reduction without good revenue sharing just leaves us in the same boat.
GOOD LORD PEOPLE, THIS MAN SPEAKS THE TRUTH!

I don't think people realize the how it would hurt them if the league booted out all the unprofitable teams.

Not unless there's actual movement on next year's cap or pensions. It seems like those are the two big elephants left in the room...unless the 'goalposts get moved' yet again, which is always possible.

Player agent with Octagon. Account is followed by Mirtle and Johnston so I'm assuming it is his account. Take it with a grain of salt I suppose.

So TSN seemed to say that a deal won't be made for a few days, maybe not a week......

Why don't they just make a deal!? Is it really worth it to them to have these late night meetings and get so fatigued over it?

I'm not against it... my team benefitted from it when the CDN dollar was weak. I just don't see it as the end-all answer. It is completely unrealistic to expect the owners to go much beyond the revenue sharing they've already committed to (and increased!) when they all paid vastly differing sums for their franchises.

I see it as a big part of the solution and one where the owners (the rich ones, that Bettman cannot push too hard) have done their part. The fact they aren't calling for contraction should also be considered a player victory.

I know that's what I would do if the PA kept pushing for more revenue sharing... no problem, let's excise the weak teams, increase the pool of talent (thereby reducing negotiating rights)... you get my drift.

No higher than 60% from the highest year means if 10 million's the highest, it can't go any lower than 6 million in a given year - despite the 30% year to year variance.

No. 1.18 is a much larger than 60% decrease from 10, so that contract structure wouldn't be allowed.

That's what I thought. Well good for them moving there I guess but that still makes some messed up sneaky contracts.

I'm starting to believe that they don't want to make a deal because that would show that they actually care about the fans and the people who work in the arenas, restaurants, etc. We can't have that happen.

Wow, it's lousy to hear that.

What exactly did these players say in the meeting to make you feel this way?

So what's the outlook for tonight? Is it going to be like last night where a lot of people were sort of expecting a conclusion? or just a quiet one, with nothing important going on?

I thought this 60% thing was just added?

40% provides 152 million...still enough. 35% gives 133 million, which starts cutting it close but is enough.
You keep going on about this. Maybe I am missing your point.

I was under the impression the NHL already increased their revenue sharing pot up to 220m (maybe it was 250m). I thought revenue sharing was already settled and the PA didn't need any more money put into that pot.

With the last CBA, the NFL is moving to get rid of revenue sharing. I remember reading an article were maybe 11m went into revenue sharing already. I could be missing the point you are trying to make, or maybe you are talking about something different.

100% revenue sharing is so beyond retarded. Have you followed MLB at all? Have you seen what the POS owner in Florida has done over the years. If every owner is guaranteed to make money no matter what they do, you are going to end up with a retard like Loria maybe 2. Im an NHL fan first, and i'd hate to see a fellow fan get screwed over by a jackass like the guy in Florida. Owners are businessmen, a lot of their motivation comes from making money. You take away a huge motivation like that, and the on ice product is going to suffer.

I'm not good at math - how does that compare with the 60% thing the PA is reported to have "offered"?
