Another Fehr pep talk, just like the player-owner meeting - 'The offer will get better'...first the best offer was going to be in December, then January now February cause the drop-dead date isn't real

I would personally like a more representative selection of players at these meetings. Just like Sidney Crosby alone should not be at contract length meetings, Campoli should not be working up pension plans.
And the players are the only ones guilty of this? After the same three owners attended the meetings for months?

To the NHLPA's credit it worked...NHL moved the most after the first vote passed. Once it expired the NHL tried changing language.

Best to keep everyone honest at this point.

That would be temporary. What happens in the next few years if the cap is back at 70 million and the usual suspects are losing money because they can't keep up?

Do you think that's a good profit margin for an owner in a 3B+ industry?
Alot of the owners in this league arent in it for profit.

According to Forbes the Phoenix Coyotes are worth $130M. If they were bleeding money the way people here seem to believe they would be worth nothing. Why would someone pay $130M for something that loses them money. Think about this.

So you are contending that the Coyotes profitable? Candidate for worst post of the year.

It's over unless it's not over.

We'll see how ironclad the NHL's deadline is soon enough. January 11 is the drop dead date for a 48-game season, we'll see if it's really the drop dead date for 'any' season.

I personally am not phased by any of the stuff going on right now with the vote for the disclaimer going down again. It's just a giant chess match. Both sides know they have made a bunch of progress. This is just Fehr making one last attempt to squeeze more out of the owners. At the end of the day I am 99.9% sure there will be a season. I think this thing gets settled sometime next week. My guess would be Monday.

Well, this is my first post on this board and what a topic. We should all be talking smack to each other and enjoying some beers while watching the game.

What is CERTAINLY true is that some of the current 30 are NOT hockey markets.
Okay, for clarification that is not the ONLY option for the league. But any options that include fewer markets is a path to a much different NHL. There could be a 20 team league, but team values and league revenues are going to be a lot lower. If the goal is growth and making as much money as possible, then yes a national footprint with 30+ teams is the only way to get there.
