That's not what I said though. Or at least, I didn't mean that with the way I worded it.

What I meant was that if the PA has the DOI they have a tool that they can use to force negotiations through with the NHL.

They can still negotiate though if the DOI is filed. One does has to question though, why it only takes 48 hours this time but took nearly a week last time.

Well I got what you meant.

I'm saying if the DoI is filed, I think it'll be endgame. No progressive negotiations in time for a deal to be done.

Don't get why he would. He knows very well that the PA can still pull the trigger on DOI. All it does is just sour the process and brings us one step closer to not having a season.

As far as I'm aware Batterman is the legal representative for the NHL, not the mediator?

What that quote is trying to say though is that Bettman and co knew there was a deadline so played ball until then and when Fehr said no filing of DOI, they changed tact .

That's the case with most franchises, yeah, because most of them aren't that profitable. The Leafs make a lot of money and that's why they are worth so much. Keep in mind, the arena accounts for 30% of the Leafs' franchise value. Almost $300m for the building alone.

As as has been suggested by multiple people including me, there was likely overhead needed for doing this the first time that isn't needed to do it again, because it was already done for the first vote.

The last blow up might happen tonight, maybe not.

If it does it isn't the end of the world I think we all expected it.

The vote on the declaimer will pass on Saturday, sides will get back together probably Tuesday and a deal will be reached at the 11th hour.

I was hoping for the early deal to get the 52 game schedule but hey, 48 is still good.

if the claim that Bettman pulled a bait-and-switch is true, HFBoards will still blame the NHLPA for it somehow

This entire time I thought Batterman was a nickname for Bettman.

Anyways, USA Today article on #DregerFace

Put a bunch of reporters and a crucial NHL lockout negotiation together and what do you get?

Well, it trends on Twitter.

In early December, the appearance of the NHL podium in the temporary press room outside the players-owners-only meetings resulted in #podiumwatch hitting major heights.

When workers changed the NHL backdrop behind the stage on Wednesday night to a neutral one, it failed to gain social media traction.

But an earlier photo of TSN analyst Darren Dreger did.

The NHL had invited reporters inside the building after days of sidewalk duty outside the league headquarters in frigid New York. ESPN's Pierre Lebrun tweeted a photo of the assembled media with a dour-looking Dreger up front.

Next thing you know, #DregerFace was trending, with his face appearing behind Jack Nicholson in The Shining, in the Jack Ruby shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald, next to unimpressed gymnast McKayla Maroney and even in a Gangnam Style video.

When LeBrun learned what he created, he tweeted: "I owe Dregs a big steak dinner. At least. Sheesh."

The league didnt change anything this morning after the deadline passed. The HRR discrepancy that caused this mornings meeting was from last thursdays proposal. The PA just noticed it now. Lebrun, Dreger, and Ward were just live on TSN explaining this.

Everything is being blown out of proportion by Twitter.

Pretty optimistic talk. I see it going down to the wire on Jan. 11th and the league cancels season over $4 million cap differential.

This hasn't really deviated from the NBA lockout script. Still on course for a deal by next week.

honestly it just sounds like the players are upset that they don't have the deadline leverage that they had last night and are desperately trying to get it back.

All we know for sure is that they had meeting this morning, and are meeting now. I cant see how that is a bad thing.

The DoI re-vote is posturing as much as anything else.
