You think Gagner is ever going to break 20 goals?

Offensively:

Giordano: 27 points(61 games) -> .44 ppg
Edler: 49 points(82 games) -> .60 ppg

Hits:

Giordano: 84 hits(61 games) -> 1.38 hpg
Edler: 143 hits(82 games) -> 1.74 hpg

Blocked shots:

Giordano: 127(61 games) -> 2.08 per game
Edler: 145(82 games) ->1.77 per game

So Edler is much better offensively and hits more while Giordano blocks slightly more shots.

Quite possible, don't watch them enough to accurately comment. Just basing what I've seen in the playoffs/ games when they vs the leafs

I think you drasticly underrate Coyle/overrate MPS.
If we're dealing two studs well below 30, I wouldn't want Iginla to be a part of the return. And as a contender, we aren't going to downgrade our defense by trading Edler unless we're getting a comparable player(both age and talentwise) up front.

Edler's better but Gio's not a bad replacement. Vancouver is a better team with Iggy, Gio and Lou, opposed to Edler, Schneider and Lou

I agree, which is why I like the trade.

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Booth(?)-Kesler-Iginla

Would give the Canucks the best top 6 in the league IMO.

But for how long? I don't like the idea of giving up two star players who still have room for growth for an aging vet and a decent replacement.

Edler and Schneider likely both have a decade+ of good hockey in them. Iginla would be lucky to have 5.

Relax it's not gonna happen! It's about improving the teams and this trade improves Vancouver for the next 2 or 3 years, maybe enough to win a cup...after that, not so much

Basing stats on one year never works, not to mention they play for different teams.

Hits are also a very subjective stat.

Stats dont tell the whole story either.

Edler is also an upcoming UFA.

Giordano (at the very least) is very close to Edler.

Would definitely put the nucks in win now mode (if they aren't already)
But I think with Iggys added ability and leadership he can push them over the top.
1 cup is all it takes to make that trade look genius. (Easier said than done, I know )
I see your point though, and it makes sense, I just thing that Iggy is what the nucks need

Nope, still like Canucks group more. In a couple years I'd take the Kings group. It's close though

Perhaps Giordano does since Edler is a pending UFA, but when you put contracts aside and assess them Edler is better and more valuable as a player.

The only area Giordano is better in is shot blocking, Edler is better offensively, a better shot, hitting is the same, Edler is more mobile, and Edler is younger and still has a bit more upside left.

No offence but I would say Sedins + Burrows then Booth-Kesler-Iginla is a bit better.

Sedins > Kopitar and Brown
Burrows = Williams

Kesler = Richards
Iginla = Carter
Booth > Penner

That is just my take though, trying to be as non-bias as possible.

No, Mark Fayne is a legitimate top-4 defenseman on most any team in the NHL.

The CBJ give up Jack Johnson and most likely a high first in a very deep draft for Patrick Kane and his $6.3 mil salary? Johnson is a new positive voice in our dressing room (maybe our next captain) and the first will be a good young player locked up for many years on a reasonal ECL. No thanks.

Edit: I see Dubinsky is also included in this deal. Now all I can say is ha ha ha!

The Columbus pick is probably top 3, so you're looking at:

Shattenkirk for Smith - jury's out on Smith, but probably close in the next couple years.
Tarasenko for McKinnon/Jones/Drouin - gotta figure equal value shortly
Elliot for Radulov and a late 1st - hardly unfair

If you don't like this deal, that's one thing, but to say you're getting hosed is not really true.
If anything, the big inequity in this is how well Chicago makes out. The Hawks are my second team and all, but they make out like bandits here.
