Next time I am sure the players will know to negotiate before ****ing july.
You can negotiate during the summer all you want, but the leverage of canceled games, gate losses and a potential lost season creates the type of leverage necessary to get a better deal.

Multiple reports indicate that Bettman only got serious when sponsors started holding his feet to the fire. Sadly, that's the sort of pressure things like this take, unless you have a Bob Kraft type step up and take the wheel.
For all the whinging and moaning, talk of 'payback' via fan boycotts, I think we'll find it will largely be business as usual for attendances at most clubs come Jan 19th. The Sabres reported a grand total of 13 people have cancelled their season tickets out of some 14,000 people (with a further 3000 on the waiting list). Tampa have apparently had just 50 people cancel theirs.
Yet since September ive been reading lockout articles footnoted with comments about how the NHL can go to hell. One hilarious Maple Leafs fan even declared he'd surrendered his centre ice gold's at the ACC in protest at Gary Bettmans stewardship of the league. Right. So the 50,000 long waiting list should get shorter by 1 eh? Nice going.
For all the fan vitriol, I can't see much being truly affected by this lockout. People just want their game back - and now we have it

Just a low rumble for now, but there are whispers KHL teams may be offering "inducements" to get RUS stars to stay and not return to NHL.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
In last 24 hours, multiple sources told me NHL teams would do well to have roll call because it's possible a RUS player or two may not show.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Two things to keep in mind: 1. Many RUS stars publicly stated earlier this season they might stay the entire the year in the KHL.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
2. NHL-KHL have post-Radulov pact to honor contracts. That said, been suggested to me this entire issue could heat up again. We'll see.
Mea culpa - didn't think a season would happen this year so good on the guys for making a deal.
Now I need to find a way to be a financial advisor to some of these NHL nitwits as owners have bailed on 16 matchups x 38 games x 15000 seats x 75 USD per seat avg = $648M gate for this fiasco.... and the players have given up $740M....
Apparently neither know how to count until you hit the 9 digit figures... could be Madoff Jr. without the prison bars and dropped soap with these yoyos...
Oh well, drop the puck and here's to seeing Lucic put Phaneuf thru the glass!!!

That will come to a head eventually I suppose. Aren't there only like 20-30 Russians in the entire NHL now?
Malkin is on a tear over there, he and Mozyakin have to be on pace to set some records. Have to wonder if he doesn't stay just to finish it off.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Back in he old original 6 days you'd go against the same guys every 10 to 12 days, talk about hate. Real hate. Made each game more and more fun. That's not even talking about playoffs.
Bring it on I say!
buffalo/boston games are gonna be tremendous this season. 7 divisional games. ott, kaleta, scott, mccormick. bring on the line brawls.

If they want to stay....let them. I don't blame them. It would certainly make our conference a little easier with no Ovy, Malkin, Kovy and Bryzgalov.....errr...nevermind on the last one, I REALLY hope that he comes back!
