Just cancel it, let's see how NHL players make a living doing something else. Most of them will be terrible at anything else because they are naturally dumb.
Lol? They would just play hockey in europe

Well facts are, never in major leauge pro.sports lockouts, has a mediator ever solved a lockout...no matter how you slice it,that is a fact as of tonight.Your playing with very small odds here...

When the doi is filed,we make headway...
NBA made headway partly because other lawyers made it happen, rather than Kessler.

I don't know why the same thing count happen here. The biggest road bock to an agreement is Fehr in my opinion

Whatever happens with the DOI they have to go to court on Monday anyway.

According to Michael Grange the judge wants to expedite a settlement and he will be in a position to compel both sides to take certain actions.

I have switched my hopes to the courts because I don't think Fehr is willing to reach an agreement.

Seems like the only people who care whether we have a season or if the NHL comes back is the media.

So, what would you rather us be doing?

Seriously. Some of you pessimists... I just wonder why you're even bothering.

There've been what, three attempts to solve a sports dispute through mediation? 0-3 isn't exactly a big sample, and like I said mediation wasn't going to solve the NBA/NFL because there was too much time left in both cases. It wasn't going to solve the NHL one in '05 because they were brought in too late.

This time they've been a part of the process for weeks and are around during last-minute machniations to help move it along. Eventually the parties have to agree on their own, but if ANY two groups need mediation it's these two.

DOI's not going to move it along, not now - at least using it won't move it along. Having it in your back pocket in case of a season cancellation will. Clearly the league doesn't want the players to DOI and the players don't want to DOI until the season gets cancelled. The reason DOI moved it along in the NBA is the NBA let the players have sham negotiaitons with Hunter in the room. They had to sign a waiver to allow that. The NHL already said they won't do that. Once the players DOI, Fehr's out of the room period.

Europe cannot afford to pay NHL salaries to more than a handful of top players. You think Parros is going to make 500k there lol?

The reality of this is Fehr holding out until the last moment to get the best deal possible unless all demands are met today.

Nothing wrong with that, it's his job. It's just ****ing annoying to everyone else in the world. You really think the players care if they play 52 or 48 games at this point?

Hoping for the best outcome doesn't require me to lose anything. Will I be disappointed? Sure, but I'd rather have a glimmer of hope followed by a small level of disappointment than to just play Chicken Little all the time.

You have a lot of respect for the sport.

Naturally dumb, eh? Don't think quick decision making, forethought, or any other number of cognitive skills might come in handy when playing the fastest team sport out there? Have you even seen an NHL game live?

You would have sounded less ignorant if you said "uneducated" instead of naturally dumb, but such things can be purchased.

Decertifying would only piss the NHL off mightily. DOI ends the season immediately.

No doubt. More than half of the PA membership would not be able to find jobs in other leagues. Not to mention those who could would be taking a serious pay cut... and let us not forget the quality of care and service that these silverspoon entitled hockey players are use to. We've already seen a number of players fold up shop and come home because they couldn't handle packing their own bags...lol Oh yeah, Europe is such a viable option.

He must be kidding, a full season cancelled this year will hurt the league, a lock out next season as well? that would DESTROY it. you could forget about everyone (including die hards) ever coming back with 2 cancelled seasons. seriously?

Told Mediator was brought into the CBA negotiations today at the request of the NHL. #CBA
So the NHL wanted the mediator now after they've been mealy-mouthing that process throughout? I guess they gave up dealing with big, bad Donnie and his angry little mob themselves

Europe might not be able to pay NHL salaries for most players, but I"m sure they would be able to find hockey somewhere and I"m sure they would make more money than your normal "day job" that people think they will be reduced to...

You realize Bettman is only a puppet for the owners right? He does nothing unless he is told to. Owners have already said they're in favor of shutting it down Thursday if a deal isn't imminent.

The Canadian Junior Hockey system is not conducive to getting a quality education. You are playing in a professional hockey league while in "high school" and the draft system does not make it realistic to attend college.

The CHL is awesome for guys who know they won't get to the NHL.

Anyone have a reference to the supposed changes to HRR definition the PA is claiming the NHL made in its offer?
