This was reported yesterday. If it's still ongoing, this is correct.

You're correct.

DoI will be filed if they feel the NHL will cancel the season.

Or the league is just arguing for the sake of arguing. Nah, can't be that. It is the players that are causing this and the owners have been nothing but cooperative.

Probably just a typo when the owners reduced the penalties for misstating HHR. Or maybe it's tough negotaiting. Crybaby players!

So I guess they'll reform it on Wednesday or Thursday if they do in fact go that route on Saturday.

Do you think the NHL is trying to downgrade the quality of towels in the locker room? Is this an important issue regardless?

Why argue it?

They probably can't, but the opportunity cost of another week is much more excusable than the opportunity cost of everything up to this point. They figure getting an inch on pensions or whatever else is worth the week, and they probably don't trust the NHL not to pull something shady if they act too eager and friendly. I can't see anything but a last minute finish with this.

The towels story's hilarious if true, but if the journalists don't know there's a mediator, I don't know if they know anything about what's going on.

Agreed. It's a waste of time if true. Much like the NHL change to HRR penalties. Cut the crap and negotiate the deal.

So, it is ok for the owners to engage in "tough negotiating", but not the players? Crybaby owners.

Or....you, and the majority of posters commenting on this subject, are both wrong and reacting to second hand information regarding the HC at Noon conversation in that the conversation regarding towels was part of a larger conversation about substandard accomodations in visitors dressing rooms that happened months ago.

Don't be silly. No one ever overreacts or jumps to conclusions around here!

I am just talking about the process in general. The post I was quoting/responding to was quoting the post about what MacLean had to say.

Are you kidding me? Of course people overreact and jump to conclusions around. Why else would I post something like that unless it had a high degree of accuracy.

Are you calling me a liar? I demand satisfaction! I challenge you to a duel....

So, maybe someone can clarify to clear up previous open ended posts.

The PA is voting to grant the Executive Board the authority to file a DOI.

Strickland reported that the PA will get to vote at the deadline on whether or not to accept the deal that's on the table.

IF what Strickland says is correct, CAN the PA still vote on a potential deal IF they have already voted in favor of granting the Board the authority to file a DOI, BUT the DOI hasn't been filed yet.

????

Would be a better argument for them being arbitrary but real (although I dont agree that they are arbitrary).

Implying / stating that they are artificial, given that historically the league has been pretty rock solid with setting negotiation /canceling deadlines and sticking to them.

Just a weak position IMO.
