That's my point though. Getzlaf is capable of that and is 6'4" 225 lbs to boot. That's everyone's dream center.
I agree that Getzlaf is definitely the better choice, doesn't change the fact that Bergeron is still a #1 center.

I'm sorry, but one of the top centers in the league? Please.
Staal
Spezza
Thornton
Elias
B.Richards
Kopitar
J. Staal
Lecavalier
Cammalleri
Laich
Bergeron
Kesler
Then guys like:
Krejci
Duschene
M. Richards
Backes
Plekanec
Roy
Hahahaha, you can't be serious. I'd take Getzlaf over all the guys I left here. Some are closer (Kopitar, Staal, Thornton), but a lot of them aren't even close (Laich, Cammaleri, J. Staal).
Getzlaf because he is the better hockey player even if he is quite lazy.
Bergeron is quite similar to Koivu and even my super finnish homerism woulnd let me pick him above Getzlaf.
So many people undervalue defensive play. Just because it's hard to quantify doesn't mean it isn't worth considering. Bergeron's all-around game is on another level than most players, and I'd rank his hockey sense right at the top of the league.

I disagree.. This board doesn't appreciate offensive pressure at all..
Player A: Spends his shifts pressuring in offensive zone, good on PP, doesn't PK.
Player B: Generates some offence, mostly on PP, is a great defensive player and is good PK:er.
Basically Player B try's to negate Player A yet this board says Player B >>>>>>> Player A

This. People on these boards don't seem to care about offence anymore, and seem to think that it's possible for one player to be as dominant defensively the way Crosby is dominant offensively. It's not like Getzlaf is a slouch defensively either. Usually one of the highest point-producing forwards in the league, and among the most physical one's also.
I'll take Bergeron and I'll admit I'm a Bruins fan but I believe that the reasons why I would take him over Getzlaf are also valid reasons.
Bergeron is great in every situation, one of the best defensive forwards in the league to go along with pretty darn good offense.
Getzlaf worries me, I just get the feeling that his best days are behind him and it is all down hill from here on out. Maybe I am wrong about that and he rebounds in a big way, but I am still taking the guy who seems to have no flaws in Bergeron.
I'll be the first to admit that at his absolute peak, Getzlaf was better, I am just very worried that he is moving away from his peak and will never be the player he was then.
Bergeron. Ottawa already has a good playmaking centre in Spezza, be nice to have an eite do everything centre like Bergeron.

Exhibit A as to how hockey doesn't matter on ESPN:
Last night an ESPN program was discussing how the Detroit Pistons needed a hero citing the heroes on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and no mention of the Detroit Red Wings. All this despite the Red Wings probably being the most succesful team in Detroit right now.
Bergeron is a excellent second line center but if he's your top guy your not going far in the playoffs unless your crazy deep. Getzlaf is a true top center. He's won a cup too so there's no debate there.
?
Bergeron is our #1 center before you say Krejci, and he was next in line for the Conn Smythe. But there was absolutely no beating Thomas.
Krejci Getzlaf
Duschene
M. Richards
Backes
Plekanec
Roy
Don't make me laugh Backes? Plekanec, Krejci, Laich, Kesler, Bergeron, Cammalleri, Lecavalier, J Staal, Brad Richards, Patrick Elias WTH??, Thornton. I'd take Getzlaf before any of those centers I think you're just trying to name centers just for the fun of it. If you think all of those guys are better than Getzlaf you clearly are out of your mind.
Bergeron gets more points than Krejci and has arguably the best defensive play in the league, and you think Krejci is our #1? Krejci is underrated defensively, he kills penalties in our defensive-minded system, but he's sure as hell no Bergeron.
There's a difference between playing on the first line and being the #1 center. Bergeron's game is much more suited for a second line shutdown role. He's still our best forward and #1 center.

I've seen it argued on the Trade board that Krejci was the #1 center for that run when arguing about his trade value.
