The Creation of the 14-15 Sabres

IMO this is the moment when that legendarily horrible team began forming. I spoke about it with someone tonight and we agree that it pretty much began the decline.

Definitely true. The fans were realizing that core was never going to win and that hit was kind of the symbolic end to any remaining hope to win with that group. Deciding to rebuild, the Sabres maximized their returns on quality pending UFA's better than anyone else in the league has. Darcy Regier sucked and would never be able to build a team with a vision the way Tim Murray has, but he was absolutely masterful in tearing that team down for maximum return.

They had an awesome team in the days of Drury and Briere. Many high scoring wins and attractive hockey.

Now I think they are still far away of being close to competitive.

Great hit by Lucic btw.

Don't know what you count as competitive. .500 already without their #1 goalie #1 winger and #2 defenseman might constitute close to it though.

Only getting better

I can check nhl.com too.

Competitive as being able to win a playoff round, let alone reach the playoffs.

I find it funny how a teams fan base thought this hit was just dandy, are now crying foul when Marchand got leveled because the hit was "predatory"

You mean just every other fan base acts? Not sure what's funny about the norm.

Nope, pretty much just Boston. A team known for being one of the dirtiest teams in the NHL boo hooing because one of there boys took a hit that really wasn't that bad of a hit to begin with

Without a doubt that was the moment. As bad as the coaching had been up to that point, Lindy Ruff had reached legendary status. For Sabres fans, he was untouchable. That wasn't even the first time Miller had been run and injured. But that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Fans finally got fed up with Ruff's terrible soft coaching and that started the ball rolling on a complete dismantling.

Buffalo's fate was sealed when Drury left us to chase a childhood dream and our owner screwed us out of re-signing Briere. Losing our 2 best players and co-captains in one off-season was the beginning of the end. The players we had left weren't a good enough core to win with. It was just a question of how long after it would take management to realize that.

I'll never understand people who claim hitting a goaltender like that is a good hit. I'll just never understand it.

I guess so. Nothing wrong with some excitement.

I would advise you golf, the Ryder Cup.

The creation of the 2014-15 Sabres is because not a lot of Free Agents want to stay or come to Buffalo.

So by your ridiculous definition only 8 teams are competitive every year and we don't even know who they are until after the first round of the playoffs...

False.

False?

16 teams make the playoffs.

After years of suckage, you can come up with .500 hockey after 12 games but its you who is ''a little'' sensitive. Just a little.

Of course. Because every hit is a good hit, right? If not, I should watch other sports. Was the hit on Marc Savard good too? And if I don't think so I should watch soccer instead?

Gimme a break

It wasn't the hit, it was the non-respons and the subsequent fall-off of a team that was predicted to get into the playoffs.

The drop-off started when Pegula bought the team, and thought to involve himself into the teams decisions by saying they should win the cup in the near-future and as a respons and to do what your boss tells you to, Darcy had to give out big contracts to above average players.

Simply another example of an owner who should stay far away from the team as possible.

And about Tim Murray, it's his first job as GM and somehow he gets a pass on dressing the two worst teams in Buffalo history. Somehow, someway the Buffalo-fans buy into a historically bad team, cheer for the team losing and calls this GM the hero that will bring the cup to Buffalo, while calling Darcy Regier and Lindy Ruff hacks and horrible, meanwhile they have accomplished way more than this socially inept idiot named Tim Murray.

****ing morons.

And to set the record straight, this ****ing GM made me not be a fan of Buffalo anymore. It took 2 years of Tim Murray to kill the passion for a team, i've had since i was a kid. He and his fans can go **** himself. The only reason he's hailed is because of some irrational respons that he isn't Darcy Regier...
