Which is why it's foolish for anyone to believe he wasn't involved on some level.

Duped my ass. Te'o and his agency are currently selling their story to the highest bidder with the caveat that they throw the most softball questions. Which is why they declined the ESPN interview today.

This is the craziest thing I've heard since Sandusky and Paterno and I still feel his sexuality was the root of this. That is the only plausible scenario I can agree with.

But to go to the levels he did is just so messed up.

I'm totally on board with everything you said...except for maybe the sexuality part. As I was reading the original article last night, it popped in my head....but I dunno. I'm not quite as sold on that angle yet, but everything else...yeah, you're absolutely right.

Still makes him a ******* based on how over the top everything got, but not nearly as bad as the worst people are assuming about him.
That's where I'm at at this point. Te'o was obviously lying somewhere, but I still don't think he was the one who made her up and killed her off.
This doesn't necessarily rule out being gay. He could simply be overcompensating in reaction to homosexual feelings or thoughts. Though that might imply he isn't 'out' yet in his own mind.

"her" twitter account was just updated

L K ‏@LennayKay

My statement: This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but I have been told by Alabama's offense that Manti Te'o is not real.

Well it's such a big deal because of the amount of media coverage that the original girlfriend story and T'eo received.

Didn't mean that he can't be gay, just that it rules out the oft repeated theory that Te'o made her up to cover up his homosexuality. Surely banging both attractive girls in South Bend and most of the others would be better cover than a fake girlfriend no one had ever met.

It doesn't seem like he was catfished, he merely may have found catfish people to help him craft his story, he should just give a quick no question press conference and come clean.

No need to insult any religion here guys. I'm unexperienced in Mormonism obviously but to insult all Christians or religious persons as "awkward" is pushing it.

I'm a devout Christian yet extremely outgoing and not awkward. Please don't generalize and automatically assume Manti is awkward and quiet because he his Mormon or religious.

All i'm saying is that there is a hint of a doubt now that he was dooped with those tweet history. If he did do it he won't admit to it, so we'll never know. It's not an OJ situation where he will right "I didn't do it, BUT IF I DID"

He is innocent until proven guilty at this point.

With a story this weird, he is guilty until proven innocent regarding reputation. Innocent until proven guilty only applies to the courtroom.

He specifically said Mormons, and I don't think it was stated that all religious persons are awkward anywhere.

EDIT: Also, why aren't these "many players" who knew that she was fake not getting into crap too? I understand that it shouldn't be anywhere close to the same level of Te'o, but they did let it all happen and not say a thing about it. No unnamed sources came out earlier or anything. I understand the brotherhood in the locker room and all that, but there's a line you don't cross. Faking leukemia and death is one of those lines.

Agreed. Someone made this comment on ESPN.com, kinda how I see it too instead of some big conspiracy theory;

Quote:
He met a girl online. He fell for her. He found out she was not real, and he got embarrassed. I don't get why that is so hard for people to believe.

While attending the ESPN college football awards show in Orlando, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said Te'o got a call from the phone number he had associated with Kekua. Te'o was deeply disturbed by the call and suspected it was Kekua's purported sister. Although Te'o's parents were with him in Orlando, he did not inform them of the call, a source said.

The person kept calling and saying it was Lennay herself, and over the course of 10 days Te'o engaged the woman in several conversations.

"He was asking questions only Lennay would know," said the source, adding that phone records show multiple calls between Te'o and that number.

By the time first-semester classes were over at Notre Dame, Te'o was convinced Lennay Kekua was a hoax, the source said. He went home to Hawaii for Christmas and told his mother about it on Christmas Eve. The day after Christmas, he informed defensive coordinator Bob Diaco, head coach Brian Kelly and athletic director Jack Swarbrick. Upon returning to campus, Te'o met with Notre Dame officials on Dec. 27 and told them he had never met his girlfriend.

If you were, you'd realize how insular Mormon communities are and how vastly different their cultural norms are. I suggest you do some reading on the matter. I also wouldn't associate them directly with 'christians'. Not that the distinction really matters.
