I'm in the proposal making mood, but anyways this would be a deadline swap (because of the injury to Henrique)

To New Jersey:
David Booth

To Vancouver:
Dainius Zubrus

Thoughts? Devils get a scoring winger for the second line, Canucks actually shed some salary and grab a center. I'm bored but anyways fire off your concerns.

Hmm, not bad. Would give the Canucks some more size and a potential fit as 3rd line center.

Im not sure how I feel

Booth can instantly help our Top 6, but Zubie is just a guy you love on your team. He has played every single position on every single line here in NJ. Top PK/PP Guy and a leader in the locker room.

Good value, but its one of those deals were Zubie may be valued more by the Devils then any other team

I like it, I'd do the trade, but then this happens:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
???-???-??? (until Kesler is ready to play)
Higgins-Zubrus-Hansen
Malhotra-Lapierre-Weise

If Kassian, Schroeder and maybe Jensen are ready to play, then absolutely for me, but Booth is a 1/2 ppg guy, but I see the 3 C hole and it screeches at me like nails on a chalk board. Tough to swallow on both sides, but I think I'm in.

Good proposal! One that is balanced, can benefit both teams. Not 100% sure right now if I would do it.

Plus he was included in a trade with Linden to the Caps... gotta love that Linden connection

I wouldn't do it.

It's pretty fair valuewise but Booth still has alot to show, and considering we just gave up 2 older players to get him it seems kinda like hitting the panic button to re-trade him for an older player before we completely see what he can do. Plus Booth brings more speed, and we need top 6 wingers, taking one away to add a 3rd line center (Which can already be filled for us with Lappierre, Malhotra or Schroeder) Doesn't make alot of sense to me, when a top 6 winger is our biggest need.

I would respectfully decline.

No way Booth gets traded this season. He's the only legitimate 2nd line winger we have. If we trade him away, we'd have two question marks on Kesler's wings.

Exactly, it's creating a bigger hole by filling a smaller need.

On paper this should be a no-brainer for the Devils, but in reality I would have a hard time pulling the trigger.

Zubrus is a core part of the team, we'd suffer universally in all areas if he left. Booth is a nice player, no doubt, but Zubrus is pretty much your prototypical New Jersey Devils forward. I may sound stupid, but I think I pass.

No Zubrus is more valuable than Booth.

Zubrus can play any forward position, put up 40 points, has size. Booth is concussion prone

Devils say no. This is a really tough one, but Zubrus just adds way too much in terms of reliability, versatility, culture, leadership, etc to the Devils.

I reluctantly and respectfully decline.

The value is there, and to that end it is a great proposal. But we just love Zubrus here. Can't pull the trigger. Sorry.

I have no problem saying no to this. The Canucks don't shed much salary (less then half a million) and the Devils lose a great locker room presence in Zubrus. Decent on paper I just don't see why either side goes for it.

Deadline deal, maybe you'll need a D-man.

Tallinder or something for Booth.

Tallinder for Raymond, maybe. Not Booth. Personally I wouldn't trade Booth unless we're getting a clear upgrade at wing. Otherwise I'd rather deal Raymond to try and get a 3C or defensive depth.

Canucks will limp along with Sedin, Higgins, Lapierre and Malhotra as their centers.

NJ can reapply when they see how Brodeur is playing.

How exactly would that dictate whether we want to swap forwards?

Not interested in Zubrus unless its cheap and at the deadline.
Not interested in trading Booth just yet. If he doesn't show much Van can buy him out if cap space is that hard to come by. We would accomplish the same with this trade essentially. Because Zubs doesn't scream part of the future when you acquire him.

I think many times over NJ fans and Van fans have agreed we are not good trading partners. Your team lacks forward depth and top line scoring depth. Van wants better scoring depth but has a plethora of tweeners. We both have D depth and each are fine with the goaltender positions as it stands.

I would love to acquire Raymond for Tallinder. He'd be a real solid player for our 3rd line and he can flat out fly, wich is always plus.

As for the original proposal, I just don't see how moving a forward for another foward helps us out in any wich way.

I think you have hit the nail on tthe head here. The lockout may have used up the remaining useful years for Brodeur as a first string goalie. I think any trade NJ will have with Vancouver, whether it is for Booth, Raymond or whoever, will also include either Luongo or Schnieder. My guess it will be Schnieder.

As far as Vancouver wanting Zubrus, even with his versitility, I think Gillis will be looking for a player(s) 29 or younger, but not prospects. The only prospects I see making the Canuck remainder of this season or the start of the next are Kassian and Schroeder (Schroeder being the third line centre).

Daniel - Henrik - Burrows/Kassian
Booth - Kesler - Burrows/Kassian
Higgins - Schnieder - Raymond
Volpatti - Lapierre - Hansen
