Players and Owners reach an agreement (MOD: circa 5am ET 1/6/13)
LOL at bettman , hes a bobblehead. I cant stand seeing him, listening to him.
The of the good things about living where we do is we all get to have our own opinions of people.

It's not his fault, though.
He cannot present his own views or a past reconstruction of what happened, since that could be prejudicial towards the PA and their ratification process. The PA needs to ratify the CBA and vote too, not just the Owners. When both sides legally agree, not just the Owners, there will be a complete autonomy on questions.
This is basically equivalent to a teacher talking about a 'past' test when only half the class wrote the test and the other half still has to write the test. It's completely inappropriate, unprofessional, and intentionally misleading.
I want to be surprised by the media asking a lot of these silly questions, but with the way the media is these days, I guess it's not their fault?
Lots of details he did not want to get into as the NHLPA has not ratified yet.
Did indicate that NHL/NHLPA will be meeting soon to discuss Olympics and re-alignment.
i think we've learnt between the 30-0 vote to commence the lockout and the 30-0 vote to end it that any fracturing will never be shown publicly in this group. The second they reach their threshold internally, everyone else opposes will switch their vote to make it appear as a unanimous decision.
What's with the delay on the player ratification. Why the Hell does it take 5 days to open the NHLPA electronic voting? Is it that hard to make a few mouse clicks and send a mass E-Mail?

That's not unusual. Heck, I've been in amateur theatre companies that use that approach when appointing people to fill positions.

NHLPA wanmted the owners to ratify FIRST... Then they gonna have Thursday and Friday to make their members vote. No big deal really.
Glad to see owners voted 30-0. Of the two groups I was actually a little worried the owners would vote this down until today. Any guess on the player vote result? I'm guessing at least 85% vote yes like yes time.

Heard some comments yesterday that although the owners voted 30-0 in favour, it doesn't mean at all that all 30 are truly happy about what they voted for.
Just a guess, but I would say 10 owners never wanted the lockout, 10 owners did want the lockout and are happy with the results, and 10 owners didn't think the NHL went far enough and gave too much to the players.
It's a joke that some want to hang Bettman out to dry and didn't understand that he did a good job in the press conference. He told us everything that he could at this time.
I agree with him on many points. Even after the players ratify the agreement, what good will it do the owners to be critical of the NHLPA? The owners want the fans to love the players, not loathe them.

On Sunday they agreed on the framework of the deal. It had to actually be put on paper in a comprehensive form before voting. Plus allow the players time to view it & discuss it via conference call with the PA. 5 days is hardly a long stretch of time.
For being so eager to play, it's sure taking a while for the players to ratify. I know they need to do due diligence and go through their agents, but, come on.
In terms of a unanimous vote, IIRC after the 95 lockout there was one nay vote from the Winnipeg Jets. Felt the deal didn't do enough to help the small market teams. The team ofcourse relcoated a few seasons later.
In a recent interview when Bettman was asked about any regrets as his time as commissioner he brought up caving in too easily in 95 and not getting a cap.

95 is the reason bettman now has the 8 votes to veto a cba that he does not agree with. he was basically run over by a semi truck in that negotiations and he didn't like it.
