If clubs are going to be facing division rivals 4x each (16 games), this 48 game schedule would make the most sense to me:

Home and home with other 10 conference rivals - 20 games

Remaining 12 games to be split with four games divided into the three other divisions. Edmonton, for instance, can have two home games with Montreal and Toronto and go to Ottawa and Buffalo. They can host Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and travel to Islanders and Rangers. Winnipeg and Washington can come here while Tampa and Florida can be part of that rumored eight game road trip that the Oilers are taking in March.

Something like that would give the Eastern teams a little bit more traveling to do besides the occasional Winnipeg trip.

I wouldn't get my knickers tied just because the Oilers may start the season on Sunday. After all there has to be some games played on the Sunday.

Perhaps the schedule fits better if the Oilers played on the Sunday to avoid a team (Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver) from playing three nights straight?

Also since CBC has first dibs for Canadian teams, they can milk the ratings by showing a Canucks/Oilers game on the Sunday. Because of the NFL playoffs, it is better ratings-wise to have two Canadian teams play on Sunday.

After 113 days of no NHL hockey, what's an extra day to see the Oilers play?

I'm ok with Edmonton playing on Sunday if CBC still shows the game.

Just out of curiosity do the oilers expect to get Klefblom , Musil and Maricnin on the squad this year?

klefbom is injured and out for the year.... musil is in juniors and won't even be at the camp.... marincin *could* theoretically get a callup this year if we are hit bad with defenceman injuries i suppose, but tuebert would more than likely be the first Dman called up

damn is the klefbom injury bad? Id like to see some of your young dmen get some ice team to get rid of some of the growing pains why your forwards are still young as well. Might lead to another lottery pick but that might not be a bad thing.

They have been successful which can draw in the average fan.

If we beat Vancouver in Game 1, confidence will skyrocket and we'll go undefeated against the entire NHL minus 4 losses to Minnesota.

An extra day too long...especially if you planned stuff for a Jan 19 opening night.

Well instead of getting together with friends and beer and getting all pumped for the return of the NHL.

It will be Sunday night with the kids.

Talk about an anti-climatic return of the NHL for me personally. Was looking forward to making a night out of it.

Yeah it sucks. You go from battle of alberta home opener on the day the NHL returns, to an away game in a place they aren't likely to win, on a sunday. Brings the excitement level way down...

Looks like they took down whatever was up before.

Coming out of a lockout, it's such a joy to be deprived of a Saturday night opener because a taxpayer funded television network is chasing ratings.

The schedule isn't supposed to be released until the Memo of Understanding is signed by both parties.

I seriously doubt there are changes at this point.

I'm glad hockey is finally back, but seriously starting sunday in Van? Awful and anti-climactic.

The CBC should want a Saturday night with 3 games, start with a bang. MTL @TOR, OTT@WPG, CGY@EDM. Winnipeg and Edmonton have the 2 most excited fan bases.

Total garbage. Oh well. Like I said at least there is hockey. But still an utter fail if this is true.

Has the schedule been leaked? How are we so sure we don't play Saturday?
