Also per Hamilton

-Gerbe still isn't 100%. But he speculated he had a sports hernia. It's my understanding its a lower back, "spine" injury

-McCormick has a finger injury that will keep him out for a bit. It hasn't healed how they hoped it would. The part I found odd was the injury happened last season. Don't recall hearing about it. I also can't think of what type finger injury would take 9 months to heal. It's been roughly that long since their last game.

I'm very much in favor of bringing Hecht in on a 1-year deal. No need to rush Grigs this year.

Agreed. If healthy, and on a 1 year, 1.5 mil contract (or something along those lines) I would be more than happy to welcome the German back.

Speaking of Duffer, I was watching the classic game last night (1998 game 4 against Montreal, where Peca scored GW in double OT), and Duff interviewed Peca - looks like Duff has lost some weight! He's looking good.

Whoa whoa whoa, let's not get crazy. There's more than enough room for Grigs

Sounds like Gerbe and McCormick are still injured, and one has to wonder how much they should depend on a guy who had spinal surgery (Gerbe) or a guy who's not yet recovered from a finger injury nine months later (Cody)--I'm aware the same can be said of Brochen's concussion issues. Throw in Tropp's season-ending injury and they're in a bad way for checking forwards right now. I hope they look into a potential Leo-for-Matt Cullen deal. Wild fans seemed to like it, and we know Darcy loves rekindling his old flames with players he wasn't able to get the first time around.

The over-riding factor is, if healthy.
But, let's not get carried away with the money. For players not currently under contract, you need to pro-rate their salary to ~60% of what you'd offer for a full season, right?

I'm OK with that.

Jets are staying in the East this season, right?

Much better balance. Gonna be weird not to see any Western teams. Then again...gonna be a weird season anyways.

I wonder how they will determine the two in-division opponents that we will play 5 times instead of 4? Random selection, based off statistics?

My guess buffalo gets Toronto for 5 and Montreal will get Boston for 5

Most likely whatever works easiest with arena availability will be what happens.

So, there's a chance he's in the opening night lineup?

Each team needs two partners, not one to play against 5 times.

I guess so, but I doubt it.

I think he's there more for experience, especially with the uncertainty of if they'll have any type of tryout period for ELC's.

Bad ligament damage that healed improperly and required surgery to correct, maybe?

I realize that, I just speculate those will be half of the 5 game division play

No problem. There will actually be 5 'top up' games total.

My guess is:
Buffalo-Ottawa
Buffalo-Boston
Toronto-Ottawa
Toronto-Montreal
Montreal-Boston

So without Gerbe or McCormick for the time being, the team looks something like this:

Vanek-Hodgson-Pommer
Foligno-Ennis-Stafford
Leino-X-Ott
Scott-Ellis-Kaleta

You clearly need a third-line center, which could be Grigorenko but would preferably be a veteran. You have no one to play on the fourth line other that Scott, who you clearly don't want in the lineup every single night. And you have no 13th forward, just your depth veterans in Rochester (Porter, Mancari) or Lazy Luke to rely on. Edit: Boy Tropp would have been nice...

This team needs at least two bodies up front. Grigorenko and Hecht could do it, but I'd hardly call a rookie and Brochen inspiring. If Regier doesn't make at least one quality move at forward (and a third line center would be considered quality), then I'd be utterly shocked.
