Don't see how this applies to either Hecht or Malhotra. There are major health concerns with both of them, sure, but other then that, they'd be perfect for the job. Hecht has been a great defensive forward for the Sabres and Malhotra spent most of his career as a high-end checking line player.

I don't think Darcy would want to burn a year of ELC on a shortened season where Grigs is not playing a large role.

Nothing to do with Hecht or Malholtra.

It happens with every aging player. Not just this year but the year before that and the year before. "Lets go after Bill Guerin for the 3rd line, he's old so he must be good defensively". Max Afinogenov 2018 Selke winner.

Gotya.

Jason Arnott comes to mind as this years example.

I think if Grigs stands out in camp, he'll be on the team. I doubt the ELC argument will matter much to Darcy if he is playing at a high level.

Quick question, is Girgensons expected to be in camp next week? I know Grigs is, but I was wondering exactly HOW deep your ridiculous center depth is actually going to be this year...

I imagine not...Amerks still have games to play so bringing up the prospects for camp might be a little tough (esp since Brennan/Porter are already coming up since they did not pass through waivers before the season).

Interesting... Looking up his stats it's seems like the numbers just aren't there right now, is it due to a slow adjustment period, bad puck luck, a combo...? Are you guys still high on him?

19yo kid playing against men in one of the best leagues in the world, especially this season with the influx of talent from the lockout. The Rochester sth's have no complaints about the kid's work ethic, willingness to play the simple game, do the dirty stuff necessary. He hasn't won't ever be a big time scorer but he has made the huge jump from the USHL to the AHL without being useless.

He has been awesome on the defensive side of the puck, as an 18 year old playing pro I wasn't expecting huge offensive numbers but he still has big potential

So, as far as the schedule goes does this make sense?
  • 6 games per team in division - 4x6=24 games
  • 2 games per in-conference, out-of-division team - 2x10=20 games
  • 1 game per bonus matchup based on popularity in conference - 1x4=4 games (say Buffalo would play an extra game against Carolina, Philly, NYR, Pittsburgh)
-----------
48 games

I believe its:

7x4: 7 games in division, 28 games
2x10: 2 games against each team in conference: 20 games

48 games

capgeek Under the new CBA, teams can retain salary/cap hit in a trade. Conditions to follow. #NHL

And teams won't be able to rush players on ELCs to circumvent the cap:

Are there any penalties for previous front-loaded deals (aka Ehrhoff?)

Yes, any player with a contract seven years or longer that retires prior to the end of the contract will still be charged against the cap.
If the player is traded, the team that the player originally signed the deal with is charged.

That second clause is Gary power-tripping over everybody.

I'm fine with the first provision but I think it's purely f'd if current contracts aren't grandfathered in, and I am reasonably sure they won't be. The second provision is just ... odd.

Exactly, I'm a Sports Business degree holder with an NHL internship & NFL agent internship and that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

From what I can entertain, it seems like you can trade a player to another team, but choose to share up to 50% of their cap hit over the duration of the contract in return for the team taking him.

This should theoretically allow for more trades, since it would be easier for teams to manipulate cap numbers to make more trade opportunities realistic.

That would be a disastrous move. He's our best defense-man.
