Scott Gomez?

Now that he is being bought out and able to seek work, he should find work quick. I think he could potentially fit in here.

He is a playmaker who doesn't like to shoot the puck but he can most likely be had cheap considering the Habs will be paying his full salary this year. he knows what it takes to win and came up in a defensively responsible system in NJ.

I know the CBJ have a ton of people who are capable of playing center but he could be the best pure center among them. he won't score a ton of goals but should be able to be in a position to help others score goals. he is probably hoping to get on with an organization that could allow him to prove himself again.

I don't necessarily think the CBJ need him but I don't think him being on the team would be a hinderance either once you get past the albatross of a contract he was under before.

And he was also playing in Alaska with Dubinsky so there is some familiarity there.

Are you talking for this season or next? If I understand it right the buy out will not happen until the off season.

The NHL are changing the rules to allow Wade Redden and Scott Gomez to be bought out now instead of being forced to sit out this season.

This is correct. He will stay on MTL books this season and the buyout will be next season. MTL is essentially eating his contract and have told him not to report to camp. They are eating like 5 million dollars to make him go away.

Not sure I agree with your feelings. MTL has a pretty weak roster and Gomez has trouble staying in the top 6 there. I don't really see how he fits any team at this point. A very high risk signing for any team. You really want to sign someone who a team would pay 5 million dollars to go away? Name an example of where this has worked before.

Thanks I had not seen that. Here is a story about it: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=413602

But it still does not mean they will be bought out.

However, there's no actual benefit to the teams to take this plan of action other than as a favour to the player to perhaps allow them to sign with another team right awa

The question for me isn't whether he scores a ton of goals as much as will he score ANY goals. On a team that isn't the biggest offensive powerhouse already we don't need question marks.

I'm not saying he would be the answer to the team's scoring problems but could be a low risk/high reward if he rebounds with the right team chemistry.

We could use another top 9 forward. Dorsett on the 2nd line sticks out like a sore thumb.

Do I want it to be Gomez? No.

Looks like there is a 33% shot we could be interested in him

"A second source told TFP as many as five teams have already expressed preliminary interest in Gomez, all in the Western Conference."

If he signs somewhere it will probably be for Brad Boyes money. Like 1 or 1.5 million dollars.

For depth, as injuries are the only guarantee in a season, let alone a game every other night for 3 months season. I'd kick the tires on him....look at our roster and take out 2 or 3 guys for injury and see what we've got

Veteran leadership! He could be this year's Craig Rivet or Chris Clark!

We don't need a Gomez. We've got plenty of guys with those skills - and more. We need a sniper!

I agree with this. Gomez would be totally pointless for us.

Scott Gomez has jumped the shark, nuked the fridge, and Reddened the Wade. He's done.

I see Vancouver going after him. Canucks needs a 3rd liner and needs a replacement for Kesler. He can play the on the 2nd line until Kesler is healthy and then after they can drop him back on the 3rd line.

But if your Gomez, do you....

A)Sign with a contender? I don't think he'll get as much money from them and he'll have limited ice time so he can't prove to everyone that he can bounce back(so he won't beable to get a bigger contract this Summer).

B)Sign with a pretender. Might get more money because for crappier teams, cap isn't usually an issue. Might see more ice time to increase his stats and then this Summer, maybe a team offers him a fair contract.

All of these are true, and I might add that he did make it up and over the hill rather quickly for a man his age.

I'm probably wrong about this, but one would think that the money is not the issue for Gomez anymore - it should be about proving everyone wrong. It is ridiculous the amount of money he has pocketed and will continue to pocket this year for what he has produced. I gotta feel that if I was in his shoes, I'd be looking at the place I could be most successful regardless of the contract.

That pun...

I wouldn't be upset if we got Gomez cheap and relatively short term. But he isn't a big answer to anything. More of just another body on the 3rd line.
