Some "fat" needs to be trimmed to get further under the cap if desired
Contracts like Pyatt, Boyle , Asham and Stralman would be the usual suspects here.
Guys like Lindberg, Fast, Hrivik, Thomas, Jean and Newbury would be potential replacement names from within the organization with a lower price tag. The newr additions of Mashinter, Palmieri and Ferriero too - if all are resigned.
Replacing/omitting someone like Haley or Biron might be options too, although the former creates no actual cap space
This is also presuming that the key RFA contract numbers wind up something like this:

I know that some people, maybe entirely correctly, think that MDZ will get a longer deal with a substantially higher cap hit. Time will tell here. But only if you have a functioning crystal ball then you might be able to give more accurate figures here (and then there would be better ways of using that "ball"). They can of course be debated either way.
The only real roster changes in this above scenario from this year (2013) would be replacing our 2 UFAs in C Jeff Halpern with #1st round draft pick JT Miller and D Steve Eminger with #1st round draft pick Dylan McIlrath. This would however add to the cap hit. There will almost certainly be more/other changes nobody can foresee, and nothing guarantees that Miller and/or Big Mac are NHL ready next year.
Nonetheless - it is within the realm of possibility that we can keep the team intact (resigning all 4 key RFAs) and keeping Ghidorah if we get really creative and get rid of some minor roster fat. Is it likely? I do not know. Nobody does. But it certainly will be interesting to follow...
Regarding cap hits to our coming FAs - I did a small "study" here below to study how Sather has dealt with our Homegrown talent. Seems pretty clear, if you play well you triple your money on your second deal (most likely a 2 year deal) to do your "RFA #1contract diligence" and then you get paid with a longer contract.Only real exception here is Marc Staal that went straight to a bigger deal taking one year of UFA. Methinx (barring unforseen huge development somewhere) that Hagelin, Stepan and Kreider will follow the usual formula but Ryan McD will follow the Marc Staal and get paid/locked up right away in contract 2. With all the excitement I am reading the Rangers can't buyout Redden till next yr and they would be hit with most of his cap hit this yr. If true this REALLY hurts this yrs cap situation.

If this is in fact the case, look for them to trade him to a team with lots of cap room with a draft pick or prospect for future considerations, then next year that team could buy him out.

good call sir, plenty of teams would be under the cap floor. I imagine the Rangers still would have to take a crappy contract back so the buyouts make sense for both teams
Trading Redden for a player who is also likely to be bought out, but has more money on their deal but maybe a lower cap hit, is the best we can probably hope for.

A guy like Rozival was attractive because his cap salary was well above his actual salary however Reddens actual salary is only 1.5 M below the Cap no. And Redden sucks. Rozival was decent for Phoenix and they wanted to get rid of WW. Phoenix actually saved actual dollars by doing this.

I wont part with Cally, Staal or Danny G so our option to pick up Cap space will be to buyout either Rupper or Pyatt. That would only give us about 1.5M in wiggle room.

I don't think anyone's suggesting that Redden's attractive for cap floor purposes. If it happens, it would happen in exchange for a (much) more expensive buyout candidate. Wade will be owed peanuts next season (in real dollars) compared to some of the other potential candidates. Saving 8 figures on a buyout would be very attractive, especially to small market owners.
(Of course, one thing we don't yet know is if this is even possible - if I'm not mistaken, under the NBA CBA you could only buy out a player who was on your roster at the time of the CBA signing.)

Buyouts have to be done by next season but pretty sure they can be done now. We have no issues this year. Have over 6 mil to sign mdz. It's next year that is a potential issue
i know that a small part of there contract still counts against the cap and we still pay part of it, but when you buy somebody out like drury are the rangers still paying him his full salary and only part of it gets counted against the cap
durry is at 1.6 right now, does that mean where still paying the rest of his contract, how exactly does it work
Michael Sauer can be put on LTIR freeing up $1.25M. Pro-rated amount.
In the NBA,teams were only allowed to buy out players already under contract when the previous CBA expired.
Roszival made less money than WW 11-12. Rozy made $3M. WW made $4M. The Rangers can't trade Redden for another player with the same time left on his contract. They need every penny available for 13-14. No more sending a player to the AHL to shed money. Redden is owed $5M next season. That's a lot of money.
With all the excitement I am reading the Rangers can't buyout Redden till next yr and they would be hit with most of his cap hit this yr. If true this REALLY hurts this yrs cap situation.
Doesn't matter. Teams can spend up to $70MM this year.
Right now, Rangers well poisitioned vs. many other teams. Real issues come at the end of 2014.
I'd be shocked if Sather traded the Redden Contract. All the teams are well above cap floor. A guy like Rozival was attractive because his cap salary was well above his actual salary however Reddens actual salary is only 1.5 M below the Cap no. And Redden sucks. Rozival was decent for Phoenix and they wanted to get rid of WW. Phoenix actually saved actual dollars by doing this.
Our big problem is we have to sign MDZ, McD, Hags and Stepan for 2013-14. Right now including a buyout of Redden, the Rangers will have approx. 12.5M to sign these four players. And that gives them no room for maneuvering. Some people talk about buying out Gabby but that will put us in the same boat we were in before the Nash Trade. I wont part with Cally, Staal or Danny G so our option to pick up Cap space will be to buyout either Rupper or Pyatt. That would only give us about 1.5M in wiggle room.
It will be very interesting to see how Sather manages to get the 4 players signed and keeping this team together.
I wouldn't be shocked, Redden can serve as a 3rd pair defenseman and he will be receiving a pro-rated salary making him more affordable for a team looking for a depth defenseman. If Sather were to include a decent pick or prospect with him for future considerations there could very easily be a taker. Then if Redden is a bust he is a 1 of 2 compliance buyouts next year. There is not much to lose for a team looking for a depth d-man who needs a change of scenery and comes with a pick/prospect.
As Rangerboy pointed out with Redden our cap is 63 million at the moment and you can take off 1.25 million for Sauer, so we can afford to keep him, but by moving Redden we open up some space for a high priced rental.
