Since it's been brought up so many times,

Yandle (a number 1 defenseman signed to a lengthy and friendly contract.)

for

O'Reilly (unsigned)
COL 1st

I know many of you will complain about the first round pick but the fact is, Yandle is signed long term, O'Reilly is not.

That's a very solid deal for both sides.

O'Reilly is a RFA with 4 years minimum attached to him. It's not like the team trading for him is taking a big risk on him remaining with their club anytime soon.

Our 1st is not available in combination with one of our core players in any trade given how poor our club has been lately and the possibility of the season going down the tube if we take even one more key injury.

ANA = Fowler (And I'm not that big of a fan, +/- is BS but hes not exactly becoming known for being 'responsible' defensively.)

CHI = Keith
ROR gets you nowhere near either of those guys.....

Value wise I think that is decent, but as an Avs fan I would not do this, because considering we don't have to trade ROR until he is 27 years old.

Agreed, we would have to add to get Fowler, but there is no point getting Fowler considering we have Elliott and Barrie.

Keith would probably demand Duchene.

If they let Phoenix negotiate beforehand and maybe lock him down for 4M/yr would a straight up trade seem fair?

What would it take for Colorado to deal O'Reilly to Pittsburgh?

I don't see a lot of pieces with Pittsburgh that Colorado would interested in for an ROR trade.

Of course, I am excluding any players that are essentially untouchable for Pittsburgh.

Brandon Sutter +

This gets Pittsburgh in the exact same place they were with Staal though. I see no reason for Pittsburgh to put themselves in that position again.

Tons of NHL teams calling about O'Reilly. But Avs say they are not dealing him

It seems if the Avs want to trade him, there could be a bidding war.

Sadly, I don't think this kid is coming back to Colorado.

I'm starting to lose hope at this point as well...if he was coming back, he should have signed by now.

And yes, I'm sure there would be a bidding war if we put him OTB. How many teams could use a 21 year old 55 point center who is great defensively and lead the league in takeaways? The answer is a lot.

Do you think the Leafs become a better team with Ryan O'Reilly subbed in for Tyler Bozak? I don't. Bozak had a comparable year last year, a higher career PPG, and proven chemistry with Kessel.

Do you think the team that's going to pay fair market value for O'Reilly is going to be one that views him as a #3 centre, or at best, a #2/3 centre? I don't, the team that's going to value him the highest is one who has a clear need for a #2 centre -- somebody like Anaheim, or Chicago.

So management is not wanting to deal him, but they are not willing to budget on contract negotiations. Great...

Next time you watch a hockey, make sure your TV is on.

Ask any GM in this league, they will all say O'Reilly >>>>>>> Bozak.

Either 2013 lottery protected, or 2014 1st, and a 3rd coming back

RoR for a Mtl 5th pick

If Spezza's back injury is a long-term deal like some fear... I wouldn't mind seing RoR on the sens to have a Turris-RoR 1-2 punch at Center... What would it take from a Sens PoV?

Zibanejad+ get things started?

Don't think so pal. Yandle is already signed, O'Reilly isn't. What did St. Louis get for Erik Johnson? Shattenkirk and Stewart. Johnson was signed, so were Stewart and Shattenkirk. If you're trading for a number one defenseman, you have to give up quality assetts. Defenseman are more valuable in trades anyway.

I would really rather just find a way to sign O'reilly and trade Stastny, even if it means getting a worse player back. To me trading RoR is the absolute last resort.

I see people one here always talking about "lottery protected" picks.... Has that ever been in an NHL trade? Most 1st round picks are moved from playoff to non playoff teams but still, I cant remember it ever happening.
