Former Coyotes owner Burke gives $450k for youth hockey development

Quote:
The Burke Family Foundation has donated $450,000 to the Scottsdale-based Coyotes Amateur Hockey Association to sponsor local teams, aid families with travel and equipment costs and help keep top hockey prospects in state.
...
The charitable donation will sponsor Junior Coyotes youth teams with players between 16 and 18 years of age. They travel to out-of-state tournaments and play at the Ice Den in Scottsdale.
“Our support of this program aims to ensure that talented hockey players in Arizona won’t feel the need to leave our state in search of more competitive hockey,” said Taylor Burke, president of the Burke Family Foundation.

Foreshadowing? The Coyotes?

Everyone with common sense (not directed towas you) knows that California has great programs and with Arizona being so close, a good player will probably choose LA Select than anything in Arizona.

The samething happens with the states around Colorado and solid players joining the Thunderbirds, etcetera with Omaha JR Lancers with the states around them.

If I remember correctly Richard Burke retained ownership of the Ice Den when he sold the team to Ellman & Company, and still owns it or is an officer of the company that owns the Ice Den... that's if I remember correctly.

I don't know if the money is intended to help bring more teams here for tourneys, so our kids don't have to travel out of state every time they want to play against more competitive teams, or if it intended to help defray some of the costs parents have to pay for their kids to travel out of state for tournaments, but every little bit helps.

It would be cool to see their Midget AAA team come play at the Macs tournament.
