Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice

Lou Lamoriello confirmed that Stefen Matteau has been invited to camp. Is only one of Devils' junior prospects invited.

Does he have any chance of making the roster?

That and they just need bodies to fill out the ranks...six forward lines, four defense pairings and two goalies, and there's only so many guys you can call up from Albany for show. They're not burning a year of Matteau's eligibility when Housley couldn't even trust his temper enough to put him on the US team.

An very small one.

I think it's mostly for the experience. The more time skating with and being around NHLers (and NHL coaches), the better.

Probably not, but it's good to get him into camp so the team can tell him what to work on and show him how the team functions.

I see him getting 5 games or so in the NHL . Because of the Henrique injury , I think they will move one of the 4th liners up to the 3rd line . I then think they rather have a big body like Matteau instead of Tedenby to fill the void on the 4th line . Also want to see what he is made off. I would much rather have him on the 4th line ahead of Barch or Janssen. Still fighters but Matteau has more skill then them

I don't think we give him a tryout i a game this year. It's just gonna be a chance to compare him to the big team

No reason not to try Matteau on the fourth line for a couple games. He has the size and physicality to be not get pushed around. If he's not cutting it, send him back to juniors.

Agreed, also training camp is a time for Matteau to learn things like fitness and nutrition (though that's usually more for rookie camps) and what areas of his game Lou and Deboer want him working on for the future.

So we will play the Flyers 5x..

Gotta think the other will be either NYR/NYI.

EDIT:

PIT forum says they are playing NYR/NYI 5x each.. that's odd. No extra PHI-PIT.

That means-
PIT: NYR/NYI
NYR: PHI/PIT
NYI: NJD/PIT
PHI: NYR/PHI
NJD: PHI/NYI

Looks like they went out of their way to get NYR both PHI and PIT 5x each, at the expense of the PHI-PIT/NBC rivalry.

I'd rather play Philly and Islander x5 than the other two. Hopefully we get Philly at home x3 and Isles on road x3.

Maybe I should see about taking a bus from WVU up to Pitt to watch a game this season. Only a 1 hour ride and if ticket prices aren't too bad it'd be fun.

I'm not saying it's a terrible idea, but you know how the Devs operate. It won't happen. They want to get him into camp and let him get a feel for the speed/skill level he'll encounter at the next level. It'll be a great experience for him and will allow him to identify areas he needs to work on. His stride has to improve as does his discipline. I like how he plays the game on the edge but he'll just be riding pine if he takes boneheaded penalties.

Tedenby just scored in Albany again (Larsson did too) It's funny that Tedenby scores 3 goals in the last 4 games right when the lockout ends.

Keep Josefson off the ice.

Also, i know it's been mentioned by some. But is Matteau Lou's solution to forward(wing) depth this year?
Maybe he's the stop gap until Lou can work a trade or Henrique comes back. Does the 9 game rule apply to Matteau right now? Is that even still a thing in the new CBA?

Clearly they're lobbying for spots on the big club.

I believe it is 6 games instead of 9 this year (Lockout reasons. Will be back to 9 next year)

Personally I don't think we sign Sykie. What I see happening is Tedenby gets a spot while Henrique is injured. When Henrique comes back as long as no other forwards are on LTIR, Tedenby either stays or goes. If he impresses he stays, and Janssen goes to Albany. If he doesn't impress he goes to back to Albany. Of course if we were to trade a defenseman this might not be the case at all. Either way Butler will be on the team opening night. That I'm sure of.

Yeah, Bob McKenzie confirmed that. On the 6th game, an ELC year is burned.

Also, Leach a team-worst -4 tonight with nobody else below -2.

I kinda want Skyora signed anyway. There might be room for Tedenby, Butler, AND Sykora at least until Henrique is back, and then one of Tedenby or Butler can be sent down until the next injury. Sykora was great in the first half of last season, and I think a lot of vets will have some quality seasons without having to conserve themselves for the stretch.
