Funny how it's always the bad teams that break these kinds of streaks. I honestly thought it'd be Edmonton myself (they've kinda had the Hawks number lately, except this year obviously), but, eh, it's all the same.
Think about it; if they take both games against us this weekend (very real possibility; the Wings have a tendency to not take these guys very seriously) and all of those other teams log-jammed at 26 points all stay where they're at, they'll only be two points out of a playoff spot. Columbus. At this point in the season.
Just an insane run, props to the Hawks.
Having said that, hopefully the fall back to earth is hard and fast. Wouldn't a 24 game pointless streak from the Hawks be a great parting gift for us

I hope their regression to the mean is slow and very painful.
I was pissed that the Wings missed out on him… maybe it wasn't such a bad thing.

How can you win a shootout against Chicago when their first two are Toews and Kane... there are no better at shootouts...crazy how slick Kane is with the slow walk and just dangle the goalie dizzy

There are a couple better than Toews and a lot better than Kane.
Are you thinking about Parise and our own Datsyuk? I disagree.
Matt Hendricks, Matt Read, Frans Nielsen, tyler Ennis Adrian Aucoin, and Tyler Seguin all have a better career shootout percentage than Toews and Michal Handzus, Shawn Horcoff, Tj Oshie, and Tyler Bozak all have the same career percentage(50%). After that you have 18 other players above Kane(41.5%). Datsyuk is at 49.2%.
Stats isn't everything though. If you put it this way, I'm sure both Toews and Kane would be on top of goaltenders list "Who would you least want to face on a breakaway or in a shootout attempt?

While I would agree that stats aren't everything for a player during the actual game, I wouldn't agree in a shootout situation. Stats are the ONLY thing that you have to judge the shootout scenario.

Don't the stats determine who the coach puts out there for the shootout?
Edit: Stats are the ONLY determination for shootouts, as mentioned immediately above me.
No Pittsburgh pays their two centers mega dollars. Strength down the middle is a proven way to win a championship. Elite wingers not so much, sure they have one guy in Getzlaf, but that is it unless the Bobby Ryan center experiment really pans out there is a big difference there.

They're Pittsburgh West because of the structure of their salary cap hits. They, like Pittsburgh have two players now with $8 million dollar cap hit. So they will have to start modeling their team after Pittsburgh in the sense that cheap role players must be selected with the utmost consideration. Of course, life is harder for them now because of this since Perry is a winger, not a center.
