I am always optimistic before the season starts. Then reality sets in and I realize how bad the Islanders are. Here is a positive scenario. The Isles go .500 against the Atlantic and 4 games over against the rest of the league. One of the other Atlantic teams has an off season due to injuries or some anomaly. Nabokov plays great and a second line emerges. The Islanders sneak into the 8th spot. Or they could easily be a lottery team again. I just want to cover all options.
Our season will hinge on whether or not Wang let's Snow trade for another decent defenseman because right now we are staring at anywhere from 2 to 4 rookies/AHLers on our blue line. That will directly act as a wet blanket on all our forwards' stats meaning lots of losses, no breakout seasons for anyone not named Tavares, and the puck staying in the defensive end regularly.
Top 3 pick guaranteed, unless a trade to bolster the blue line occurs soon.
Welcome, Seth Jones. Welcome.
Well, so much for that. I believe at the time Vis reporting was an issue, and we didn't have Strait or Hickey. That depth saved much of the season with Vis being huge.
I am glad to be off so far. I hope the club finishes it out.
if anyone predicted before the year that the nielsen line would be our best line, hickey would be one of our best defensemen, vis would report, play well, and re-sign, and that we'd be fighting for the 6 seed, they would have been ridiculed and laughed off this forum. couldn't be happier that we were all wrong.
Isles finish 7-9 if the defense stays healthy and I think power play will be very good this year...one good 20 game stretch from making it and isles are streaky team...I'm an optimist realistically 11-13 finish in confrence
