I'm going to bed after this set no matter who wins. Can't believe how much choking has been going on, Almagro HAS to win this!

This is such a terrible match. So many times Almagro was two points from the match. So many times he played terribly when he had a chance to go ahead in the game and get a match point. Twice he came up with great shots to stave off break point. It was a microcosm for the set in general: he was terrified to take a lead, but played brilliantly from behind. More of the same: 15-40 chance for Nico, will he keep his perfect conversion rate? No. Unreturned serve. Yet another overhit backhand on the second - couldn't count how many of those he has had this set. A third chance to break... another unreturned serve. A fourth... another unreturned serve. A fifth... again the serve down the middle unreturned. Again he outhits Ferrer for a sixth... finally returns that serve and Ferrer misses his forehand.

Here we are again folks.

Come on, Ferrer. I want 5 sets!

Ferrer breaks. Tie-breaker now.

Entertaining set in a women's tennis sort of way.

He can't buy a first serve when he's ahead and he can't win anything on his second. Finally wins the first point... but loses the next three. Saves one... not the second Four breaks each that set.

Tiebreak.

Every time it goes to Almagro's forehand he chokes on it.

No, don't think so. Think he'll finish this. He doesn't retire much.

It may just be a cramp too.

Ferrer looks like he will win the 5th 6-1 or 6-2. I doubt we are longer than another half hour once the set begins.

There's the set for David. A medical time out to follow, I assume.

Lack of sleep is getting to me. I actually thought Almagro won his sixth break point back there. What a surprise.

David must be thanking his lucky stars that he won that set. How many opportunities did Nic have? And David spent so much time hitting to Almagro's backhand. What an odd duck of a set.

How to Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth, by David Ferrer.

Nic might try coming in more--it may be easier going north/south with a sensitive groin than east/west...looks like he is playing until David gets a break, if David can ever take him up on it, that is, what a sloppy kill; regardless this is pretty gutsy on Almagro's part.

About bloody time. My great grandmother in Sydney would have had a break by now.

Argh. I need to start on my research presentation (and go to sleep), but this match is keeping me busy.

#firstworldproblems

EDIT: Match almost over. Almagro crashed and burned pretty badly. I knew Ferrer was winning this once he won the third set. Just felt it.

Dude, the night is young. Only two and a half hours to Nole/Berdych.

Kudos to Nic. That might have not been the smartest thing to do, but it took some fortitude.

Almagro is a lot of bad things, but he isn't an outright quitter.

Ferrer was there for the taking today. Definitely the best chance he has ever had to make a slam semi, but no one who chokes like that can ask for a better result.

Are you actually going to stay awake for that match? I have university tomorrow morning.

Classy post. (in case, there is some doubt)
