That's about the only scenario where I buy trading Mcbain. They put sangs in his spot. They are a bit similar, though sangs is more lanky/awkward. Id prefer Mcbain t this point. People tagging on mcbains defensive zone work will likely really struggle with sangs too.

McBain+ for a large forward who has talent would make sense (ie not Anyhony Stewart or My Little Poni) That would also mean the organization has longer term plans for one of Corvo or Sangs which I dislike greatly.

It's not his offensive production that concerns me.

Not his offensive game at all. Or his tools. Just his brain. I haven't gotten a chance to watch the Checkers yet this year, so I'm not sure if his defensive zone play has improved at all, but he was basically a 4th forward out there all of last year. When we've got the puck he's great, which means he's a no-brainer for the point on the PP. We COULD break him in giving him only offensive zone starts, but eventually his defensive zone play will have to improve for him to be a regular defenseman in any lineup.

Scrimmage lines are, according to Chip:

Boychuk-EStaal-Semin
Skinner-JStaal-Dalpe
Tlusty-Juice-LaRose
Bowman-Brent-Dwyer
Nodl-Welsh-Wallace
Westgarth-Nash-Sutter

If Dalpe and Boychuk actually stick in the top 6 the 3rd line could actually be productive.

Assuming these lines mean anything.

Gragnani was AHL defenseman of the year in '10-'11, to put that in perspective.

I believe Andrew Hutchinson and John Slaney were also prior winners.

To add to the list of future defenseman Hall of Famers: two time Eddie Shore award winner Curtis Murphy (02-03 and 03-04) who has played one NHL game.

As good as it is to have an aggressive offensive guy in sangs, he'd still be a defensive step down from mcbain at this point. Mcbain has some good experience and is an above average offensive guy. If we got something really good for him then that's fine, but to move him just to open up space would be a mistake. Mcbain is a better defenseman today. We are playing to win this year, and that matters in a talk like this.

Sounds like boychuk and bowman both got a shot with staal/semin and both scored. Jokinen and tlisty on the third is a nice option if one of those two can stick. I hope bowman doesn't get the nod based off experience. Boychuk is the better and more consistent offensive guy there.

9 guys for the last three spots. Nuts. We need to waive nodl.

Who's the best bet at this point to play with Staal and Semin on the top line?

Tlusty.

Interesting to see the tryout between Boychuk/Dalpe/Bowman. A lot on the line for those guys.

Thanks. I was wondering if he'd be a good fantasy pickup and wanted to see how things are going to shape up.

nah. those are the peices we'll need to get leighton back.

whats the situation with waivers and the guys fighting for spots? how many would need to clear?

could play a role in who wins out on a battle if its close. boychuk, bowman and sangs would have to clear waivers? dalpe not?

A smile to rival Char's.

How long until Staal is jealous of his brother?

Bowman, Boychuk, Sutter, Wallace, and Sanguinetti have to clear waivers

Dalpe and Nash don't

I've been wondering that as well. I see in the "waivers" thread on the trade board, that this CBA has eliminated re-entry waivers.

I "think" Dalpe won't have to go through Waivers. I'm guessing Nash as well won't have to? I'm pretty sure Bowman will have to go through Waivers to go to Charlotte since he did NOT go through waivers at the start of the season (signed an AHL contract). I'm pretty sure he'll get a spot on the Canes for that reason alone.

It is unclear for me on Boychuk, Sanguinetti and Sutter. They went through Waivers as the start of the season, but did not go through any re-entry waivers to come to camp. Does that mean they need to go through Waivers again to be sent down? or not? Anybody know what the new CBA says on this?

Will there be any kind of a box score for the scrimmage today? I'm curious to see how everyone played.

well we are going to lose at least a guy in the next few days then. boychuk, bowman, and sangs should all get some interest. all of them really, sutter and wallace could be valuable role players to someone, and everyone has watched them play this season.

i cant see all these guys staying up without trades. i think wed have heard something if guys were being shipped out. i would think dalpe goes down to save an asset, but ive been wrong over and over thinking that way in the past.

boychuk and sangs could be at the end of the road here if they dont make it. they been loving on sangs so im guessing boychuk is on his last shot.

If (under this CBA) they all do need to go through waivers, then it was just plain silly to bring Sutter up for the scrimmage only to send him back down. I'm wondering if there is something in the new CBA.

Nobody will claim Brett Sutter, he's gone through waivers like thirty times before
