I was pretty sure that all discussions here surround players who suck.

It's not like we heap praise in here, and now that Sutter's gone...

JR on hockeycentral@noon right now

Said 6-7 Checkers will be making the big club (nothing new but I figured with all these guys being sent back, who's still left?)

Said Murphy's probably being sent back this afternoon

Ellis
Sangs
Dalpe
Boychuk
Bowman

Wallace
Welsh/sutter?

May need time to make moves to get them all aboard. I'm not counting Faulk, he's no checker.

I count 6 that are left: Faulk, Sanguinetti, Bowman, Dalpe, Boychuk, Ellis.

Seriously, Sutter was the only player who could be counted on NOT to suck most nights.

Per Chip:

Quote:
Muller says no decision made yet on Boychuk, Dalpe staying on top lines for opener.
So looks like top 6 will be:

Boychuk or Tlusty / Staal / Semin
Skinner / Staal / Dalpe

I think Chip is saying no decision is made on Boychuk OR Dalpe in the top six So Boychuk-Jokinen-Dalpe could still exist as well.

ARgh..you are right. I totally mis-read that. I read his comma as a period. Thanks for clearing that up!

In followup tweets, he said Muller also said he likes the Tlusty-Jokinen-LaRose line.

Interesting. I'm tempted to read into the other side of that equation and wonder if that means he doesn't like a Tlusty/Staal/Semin line. You'd think that, if he liked that line too, Tlusty would stick with Staal before getting moved to the 3rd line.

Or maybe he just likes a kid a lot more with Semin and Staal.

So many decisions for Muller to make before the season starts. Seems like all he knows for sure is...

A-Eric-Semin
Skinner-Jordan-B
C-D-E
F-Brent-Dwyer

Defense and goalies seem set, with McBain at the bottom now.

Actually, I like that line a lot as well.

Jokinen's creative and a good setup man, but not the best defensively, so he's covered by two solid, but not great defensive wingers. Tlusty's got the finish (if last year was any indication), but benefits a lot from having a set-up guy and a player crashing the net. And LaRose is the forechecker/pest/cleanup crew on the line, going into the dirty areas the other two are adverse to heading toward and scoring the rebound goals.

My guess (if the lines end up like this) is that he wants more balance across 3 lines. If he puts Tlusty on the 1st line and LaRose or Jokinen on the 2nd line, then it's 2 kids on the 3rd line and it would likely struggle more and be less effective. In a shortened season, I suspect he wants to be able to roll more lines and have them be effective.

I like it. we already know E Staal works on the point on the PP from a few seasons ago, and im sure his bomb is a little more accurate than Corvo's. This also gives them the option to rotate Skinner and E. Stall on the halfwall where they love to make things happen from.

I like it

So if that's our new PP lineup assumably for all PP situations, what player do we sign after he blocks several shots on a 5-on-3 this year?

Having Tlusty play on third line with Jokinen is a great way to roll three balanced lines. Though I'm sure we'll see him on the first line if the kids can't light it up with Eric and Semin.

How's the penalty kill going to look like?

Brent-Dwyer
J.Staal-LaRose
E.Staal-?

Per Chip's Twitter, "Muller really likes look of Tlusty-Jokinen-LaRose line"

Honestly, that's a third decent scoring line and a pretty good defensive line. I think Bowman is also a good option on the left wing.

Exciting.

Seriously, if one of the Checkers can step up and fill in a top spot adequently, we'll have a good Top 9.

Which says a lot when we can lose Ruutu and still put out a formidable lineup.

I really like the lineups. It's sink or swim time (round 3?) for Boychuk and Dalpe.

Though I suspect that we could dress a rock in the sightless eye and it would still get 20 assists with E. Staal and Semin.

Also, that PP lineup is complete overkill. They are going to need to produce enough to justify having a weak second unit.

This opens up the possibility of an almost all Checker 2nd unit that I presume played together already this year. Juice between Dalpe and Boychuk with Sangs and Faulk.

Personally I prefer stacking the 1st PP line. Going all out for 1:20 is more appealing to me than spreading it out over 2 minutes. But that'a just me.
