As much as I liked JStaal Bobblehead, this is just too perfect

And I really wouldn't read too much into the lines during the first day of training camp. They'll change, no need to line up at the cliff.

Apparently, Corvo went insane over the lockout.

I think the fact that they didn't strip Charlotte entirely by calling up EVERY player that merited it was a good call. It's not like they haven't seen enough of Dalpe, it's just that Boychuk has been superior this season in the AHL. I would like to think that Boychuk will bring the heat all year, but knowing our organization at the first sign of trouble we'll see the deck chairs shuffled. I do feel like Dalpe has lost his focus at the AHL level the way Boychuk had in seasons prior. He's not playing with nearly enough passion.... save when the lockout was close to being over and he really stepped it up. Funny how that works.

I wonder if players called up for camp will have to clear waivers when going back down to the AHL? It would be interesting to see. I think that Boychuk is waiver eligible this year. If he makes the squad and doesn't stick, I wonder if another team would bite. Same with Dalpe, Sangs, and the rest of the crew.
From Chip:

On Dalpe, Rutherford said decision was to keep him in Checkers' lineup for road trip. "Who knows, he may be in our lineup opening night."

Are they doing 'rewards' this season? Doesn't seem like they have the time to just be giving token training camp callups. Seems more like this will be a 'cram in as much as possible in time for the regular season.'

Or maybe not. Such a shame we didn't get a full preseason, as this would have been an interesting one.

The junior tryouts are restricted to 6 games this year if that's what you're asking

Does anyone know of a local company that could blow up a magazine cover to poster-sized scale?

Not because anyone asked, but I have a theory on Dalpe getting passed up for training camp. The original plan was to play the Staals together, leaving second-line center open. But Ruutu's injury has scrapped those plans, and the Staals are now set to be the 1/2 centers. Since we already know that Dalpe has very little value outside the top six, it's possible that the team just didn't feel there was an opening for Dalpe to try-out for, so they didn't invite him.

It will be interesting to see how Muller handles the Charlotte guys this season. On the one hand, I'd like to see some guys get an extended look and not yanked out when they have a bad play/game like has occurred in the past. On the other hand, this is only a 48 game schedule, so Muller really can't afford to have a guy work though any issues for very long or it will kill playoff chances. I guess a lot of it depends on how the team is doing in general. If their record is borderline playoffs, I suspect he won't have the luxury of letting guys work through it for a couple of games and he'll rely on the vets more.

Others are being brought in tomorrow:

Chip Alexander ‏@ice_chip

Hearing Dalpe, Nash, Sutter will be at Canes camp tomorrow.

Chip Alexander ‏@ice_chip

Don't rule out Dalpe getting a good look. Maybe on Jordan Staal's line.

Personally, I think Dalpe is the only one who makes sense handedness wise and style wise on that line. I feel that that line desperately needs a RH shot, and while LaRose is that, his style of play, imo, would not mesh with Skinner and JStaal.

Probably that and they didn't want to completely wreck Charlotte's depth by calling everybody up at once

Where the heck is RasK? I thought for sure he'd get a good look since we seem to be short on Centers that we actually want to play at Center.

I would be totally on board with this statement if Larose was not the 6th person in the top 6. If Dalpe cant get a look at that spot over Larose, then I'm not sure they think much of him at all.

However, now that I write that, I am wondering if they are thinking that they need a defensively responsible opposite wing for Skinner to play with.

He was sent back to Calgary and can't be recalled (Murphy's here because he was one of the few players the CHL gave exception to). He's nowhere near NHL ready anyways.

Prior to the lockout, teams were asked to submit exemptions from the CHL in the case of a lockout and shortened training camp that would coincide with the Junior hockey season. Carolina named Murphy and Rask to that list. Had they wanted, they could have recalled him to evaluate him at camp but apparently decided against it after seeing him in Charlotte. Carolina submitted a second list that only named Murphy when it was time to actually make the recalls. The consensus being that Rask may not be ready.

Using the art of positive thinking, here are my new line combos:

Tlusty-Staal-Semin
Skinner-Staal-Jokinen
Dalpe-Filppula-Bowman
Westgarth-Brent-Dwyer

Corvo-Gleason
Pitkanen-Faulk
Harrison-Sangs

With Flip in the lineup, I think that you can make more use out of Dalpe not being in the top 6.
That is obviously with Larose and McBain shipped to Detroit for Flip. Again, just using the power of positive thinking like my philosophical father tried to teach me.

I have to wonder if we are going to trade McBain soon. Muller and JR seem to really be pumping up Sangs a lot. Talking about how impressed they have been watching him in Charlotte.

On another note, anyone know what time the scrimmage is today? Thinking of heading over.

Edit: just saw, 11, won't make it in time.
