GDT: Albany River Rats vs. Binghamton Senators 7 PM

Joined in progress, hearable online at live365.com. First period is over. Lots of offense and defensive...shortcomings by Albany.

The Score So Far
Binghamton - 3
Albany - 2

Scorers
Binghamton - Jason Spezza (Brandon Bochenski) 4:18
Albany - Ahren Nittel (powerplay) (Dean McAmmond, Pascal Rheaume) 7:53
Binghamton - Brandon Bochenski (Jason Spezza, Christoph Schubert) 8:46
Albany - Pascal Rheaume (Zach Parise, Bobby Allen) 10:38
Binghamton - Antoine Vermette (Charlie Stephens) 11:08

Shots on Goal
Albany - 16 (10/13 saves by Ari Ahonen)
Binghamton - 13 (14/16 saves by "Sugar" Ray Emery)

Nice to see Albany get a PP goal in the first period. At least it won't be a 7-0 beatdown like the last time. Go Rats!

END UPDATE: Senators ultimately win 5-3.

Amazingly...yeah, that would make 10 PPG for Nittel.

Nittel takes advantage of the man advantage. NJ should give this guy a good, long look (coughDevilsneedaPPguycough).

Ahonen is playing well despite giving up 3 goals in the first. According to the Rats announcer, he made a real good save...and he just made another. Interestingly, Albany has had...at most maybe 1 shot this period so far? So good thing Ahonen is playing well...

UPDATE~!: Brandon Bochenski pulled down by Teemu Kesa, the Baby Sens go on their 2nd power play. Go Ahonen!

UPDATE~! the 2nd: Penalty killed. Parise even saw some PK time, cleared a puck. Now Albany needs to go on offense...AND THEY GET A SHOT! Whoo.

OK, a very quiet 2nd period has ended. River Rats had a whopping 2 shots on Emery, compared to Binghamton's 13 shots. Cheers for Ari Ahonen for saving them all. Jeers to the Albany offense. Get it together, you're down by 1...

Nut bunnies. Binghamton scored on their 4th PP opportunity in the 3rd period, Brian Pothier (assist: Chris Kelly) poked it through Ahonen's 5 hole.

Albany down 4-2. Come on Rats, make like a ska band and pick it up.

RATS SCORE! RATS SCORE!

Pascal Rheaume put the biscuit in the basket on a delayed penalty call! Tipped over Ray Emery's shoulder. Rheaume scored his 20th goal of the season, assisted by Dean McAmmon and Zach Parise.

4-3 Senators, 5:38 left in the game. The Rats have a shot of tying this up and winning. Go Rats!!!

END UPDATE: In the final minutes of the game, the Rats had it in deep with Ahonen pulled; but the Senators got it and scored the empty net goal (Hamel from Langfield) with 51 seconds. Ahonen pulled again...but it's over. The Rats couldn't complete a comeback. Despite the score, Ahonen played well according to the commentator.

Personally, the Rats' lackluster effort in the 2nd period really messed up any momentum they had from the first and so the Pothier goal became the game winner.

Honestly, though, Jason Spezza was in a league of his own tonight. The best player on the ice by a wide margin.

Oh well, at least my row won the trivia contest. Free windshield washer fluid!

He's got 81 points (25 G, 56A) right now. Unless he unfortunately succumbs to injury or a major slump, I think a 100+ points is a safe bet with a little over 20 games remaining.

I kinda wish Spezza isn't in the system of an already talented Ottawa squad. Because it's going to make beating the Senators that much harder to beat.

Wait a second. Spezza. Brandon Bochenski. Anton Volchenkov. Ray Emery. Antoine Vermette. Brian Pothier. Denis Hamel. Arrrrrrrgh. Stupid deep with talent Binghamton...

Brandon Bochenski was an outstanding pick by Ottawa. What round was he picked in . . . 4th? 5th? I love the Devils' draft picks this past decade plus, but Ottawa is the King at drafting. They are nothing short of amazing.

I wonder how Brandon and Zach like going against each other. They will be doing battle for years to come when the NHL get's their **** together. He was a great finisher up in Grand Forks.

Yeah, he was a late pick, but he improved a LOT in North Dakota after being drafted, if I recall correctly.

If it's any indication, the two played really well together on the same line in the AHL All-Star Classic.

Perhaps The Lou can swing a deal to have Bochenski wear Devils red with Parise...

I'm sure he improved, but his USHL stats were outstanding (rookie of the year his first year). 80 points in 55 games as an 18 year-old is pretty good stuff for that league.
