I think there is some merit to these rumours for the following reasons:
-Before he signed his contract with Winnipeg, there were rumours that he wasn't happy in Winnipeg. Who knows why, maybe due to the extremely cold climate. He signed right before the CBA expired so it might have been done just to get a deal done before the lockout.
-He has a massive ego and is very immature. I know a few friends that grew up with him and played with him, apparently he was a pretty big ****** bag and was extremely arrogant. If I'm not mistaken, I heard his car and/or house got egged a while ago.
-Winnipeg might still be a few seasons away from making the playoffs (speculation).

Usually you can dismiss a rumour or two about a player, but when there are tons of rumours (all with different reasons) that point to the same thing (Kane wanting out of Winnipeg), there has to be some truth to it.

Guy from Vancouver validating the "Kane has a big ego" rumours. I've met him a couple times at parties and he was nice enough to me, but tons of other people who grew up with him around the area have less-than-fond memories of him. Apparently he was a big-time "me first" player all the way through minor hockey, which makes sense because of the high talent level.

He's from Vancouver, which is a relatively big city with the most mild climate in Canada.
Winnipeg is a relatively small city with extreme climate.
