Not overly IMO. Probably the only thing necessary is just for me to note in the draft picks thread a player over 22 who's selected. Only 3 I can think of in the history of the league have been Gustavsson, MZA, and this years Cervenka pick. Only question is how long to give someone the rights to someone like that since they're already a developed professional. I personally would have no problem with say 3 years regardless of if they hit the 200 game mark or not.

... I hate you Vagrant. I wanted Johnny Hockey.

Why do you need him though? You already have Mark Jankowski, you don't need anybody else.

Wow, Johnny Gaudreau in the 3rd round?

I feel like these drafts are whoever can REMEMBER to draft a sweet prospect first... I've seen so many "wait, HE was still on the board" comments over the past couple of years in this draft it's kind of funny...

A number of years after they were drafted or played their first NHL game?

And remind me: what problem are we attempting to solve with this?

Yep. Part of that is because there are only so many high end prospects in a given draft, even of the boom or bust variety (Frk, Jankowski), but some drafts are just stronger then others and often the best later round picks don't show until the next year if not two years later.

Drafted, though I'd expect it to be the same thing. Typically it's not even worth drafting someone like that unless there are strong rumors about them making a jump in the first place.

It's two-fold. One is there basically wasn't a major point to the prospects draft before if we lost them so fast. Two is that extending prospect rights are a good way to help improve competitive balance in the league and are a reward for savvy drafting GMs.

Hm, I thought we had picked a vanilla 200/100 games played system. This is why I took the ancient (barely Calder eligible if season had started on time) Roman Cervenka.

I'm really confused, because these thoughts seem to be at odds with each other. If you lose prospects faster, then the prospect draft takes on less importance, and you are taking away reward for GMs that draft well in the prospect draft.

I remain unconvinced, so I'll vote Nay to this, but if someone can present another argument, I'll gladly reconsider.

Dave, when are we going to see only the players who are available in this draft list? I'm still seeing Keepers in my list of available players, and that kinda makes it less fun to get prepared...

If you're like me and getting frustrated determining whether the 200th best center in the league is more valuable than the 150th best defenseman, just look at The Dude's roster and realize that your draft rankings aren't going to matter because he's going to walk away with this league.

Send a message via AIM to Vagrant
I knew there was going to be a little heartbreak over the Gaudreau pick, but there are much less risky players on the board that will no doubt be ready to contribute much sooner. I just really enjoy watching him play and love to have prospects to track for reasons other than Hurricanes property.

Hmmm. So I was unaware the draft was tonight (would have been unable to do it anyway). And I have been graciously informed by Coop that I have drafted everyone's prospects.

What do.

Huricanista has already proclaimed The Dude this year's winner.

He even put $100 on it.

Dave, I was just noticing that our resident meth head and our friend from Oz have pending trades with the Prospects Team. This brings up two questions:

1) At the outset of the season, at least, can the league commish place the prospects on each team as requested by that team's GM?
2) Is this something we can have on an ongoing basis, so that we don't have to wait...what, 4 days to get our prospect on our team?

Since these are players that each of us has counted on for our regular rosters, and I'm guessing that the Yahoo system isn't going to complete the transaction until a coupla/few games have been played, I'm hoping we can at least be able to do the first option above.

As with just about anything I suggest, I am perfectly will to help perform this duty, if that's an issue. I have the commish credentials and would gladly assist in these transactions, but I don't know how that is done behind the scenes. And I would vow to use my powers only for good.

I do appear to have quite a few guys who are good in the circle. But with Schultz, MCDonagh, and Carlson protected I probably wouldnt have taken dmen in rounds 2 and 3

Just so you know, Brendan Smith is my prospect, so hopefully Dave will be moving him soon.
