So, now that the season is done, what do you think of Marc Bergevin's first year as Habs GM?
What do you think were his best, what were his worst, moves?
Best: - Signing Subban
- Re-structuring the coaching staff
Worst:
- Signing Bouillon and offering him an extension
- Giving Desharnais an early extension
That was a stupid move and many people called it from day 1. Subban is gonna cost much more now that he would have if he was signed to a longer term contract like he wanted (BTW, he wasn't asking for too much given the contracts that are signed in this league these days).
He made the team smaller, weaker and less physical. After years of being the smallest team in the league we start to move away from it and then he took another step backwards.
Gionta, Desharnais and Boullion need to be gone. DD is looking like a better buyout candidate than Kaberle who isn't even allowed to play!

As the poster above said. This was horrible in hindsight and a number of us called it. Subban is going to demand a huge ransom and now he'll get - from us or another team offersheeting him. We lost an opportunity to lock him long term at $5.5-6 million. Now he'll demand seven or more.
While I understand BG's approach at the deadline. I do believe we should have made a few more depth moves; look for another Prust (Talbot comes to mind) because the physicality burden was just too much for him.
I also am a bit disconcerted over how Therrien's responded to our dreadful play - backing our way into the playoffs. His insistence to play Desharnais and Pacioretty together all year did nothing to alleviate those concerns.

Please get rid of Gionta and DD. change the face of the team, replacing those two with Clarkson and anyone else would satisfy me almost as much as a Stanley cup.

This is the only reason why I put it as a positive.
anyone hat thinks this team is a couple of players away from being a contender is delusinal. The last two months including the playoffs they have been blown out almost every second game. To small and soft on the D, to soft and small on the front and goaltending is a question mark. Coaching needs to be looked at as well.
Although Price was below average goalie this year, he will likely bounce back ( lets hope ).
We know Gally will be a top two line center, I now think Eller might be a decent 2nd liner, both with some decent size. We have a top d-man, and a decent hopefully goalie. Core is young and can build around for next 5 years.
Now, see what you can get for DD, Plekanec, Gionta, etc. and get bigger while building around the core.
Overall, impressed very much with Bergevin so far.
Good moves:
-tried to get Torres at the deadline
-called up Tinordi & Beaulieu at the right times & gave them confidence
-...tried to add toughness by claiming Cool Ranch Sestitos
-didn't try to do too much, I guess that can be a good thing
-Halpern
-overpaying to sign Prust(obvs)
-getting rid of Gomez(another obvs)
Bad:
-traded away the only other forward than Gallagher that would go to the dirty areas to score, didn't replace him
-Colby Armstrong took up a roster spot all year
-didn't trade Diaz when his value was high
-threw mad cash at DD like he was on a game show
-re-signed Bouillon as the supposed sheriff on the back end & called it a day
-didn't want Westgarth, MacLaren or Kassian for free

He traded Cole, he was forcing the issue right off the bat with Gomez, would have bubble-wrapped him if the rule-change wasn't in place, and then he stuck to his guns firm in the conviction that Kaberle is the next buyout. All good calls that put us in great shape on the cap, from a situation that was pretty awful.
The Desharnais contract was unnecessarily generous to the player, and the whole Subban situation was unneccessarily harsh on the player. I don't know that either of those really affected us this season. But could well affect us down the road.
