Adam Foote #52 to the rafters

Colorado Avalanche ‏@Avalanche 13s
NO. 52 TO THE RAFTERS: The Colorado Avalanche will retire Adam Foote's #52 next season

Yes I will take some heat for this, but... I don't like it.

Well deserved. Probably would have happened this season if it wasn't for the lockout.

Congrats Footer!

I agree. He's a good guy and all, but I'm not sure about this one either.

Sakic, Forsberg, Roy would be enough.

IMO, he deserves it more than Bourque -- in Colorado, at least.

Not suprised that they are retiring his number. Just not sure I completely agree with it.

This most likely means Hejduk too.

That is six jerseys (Bourque, Roy, Sakic, Forsberg, Foote and prolly Hejduk) for an organization who hasn't been around for 20 years? It takes the "specialness" out of it.

Obviously! But if we should retire anyone who deserves it more than Bourque... Then we might as well through Liles up there next season.

The fact that Ray is there is a JOKE to be honest.

Bottom line, it's too many numbers up there already. The only one who should be a certain thing is Sakic. Foppa and Roy... Fine but boarderline decisions due to too few seasons.

That's not what I said, though. I don't really think any of those 3 need to be up there.

What?

I agree that there are to many numbers up there, but Foppa and Roy should easily be up there.

2 of the all time greats to ever play the sport, and they both played a high majority of there time with the Avs, and retired as Avs.

They should both easily be up there.

Other then those 3 though, I am not sure anyone else should be there. I can see the argument for Hejduk, but the others I don't.

I don't mind this, but I'd like to see the Avs take more time with these guys that aren't clear HOFers.

At least a three year waiting period like the HOF. It's only been two with Footer. Spread it out a little. After Hedgie, there's gonna be a long wait for the next one.

He earned it though for all the blood and sweat he poured out for this team, and the two cups he won with them.

Agreed. I think the retiring of Bourque's number really threw off the standards.

Don't get me wrong. I LIKE ROY AND FOPPA being up there. But they should be "certain" things with so few seasons with the Avs.

Now this comment is a JOKE. At least I hope it is.

Foote deserves it. Good for him.

I like them. But... 7,5 seasons for Roy... That's kinda short but. I'm fine with it still.

I'm not one of those guys who call Avalanche a "laughing stock" all the time. But this is one of the few occasions I do it. Too low standards for getting the jerseys retired IMO.

Totally agree, but after those two (52/23) we probably won't see another retired number for a good 15-20 years (or until Duchene retires ).

I didn't mean to open a can of worms or anything. But I'm just one of those guys who want the jersey retirement to be really really really special and extremely rare. It should be insanely high standards for it. But that is just my opinion.

Yeah, Bourque's number shouldn't be retired by the Avs. Sakic, Forsberg, Roy I think the vast majority of people would agree with, especially considering that seasons of service with the Nordiques count as seasons of service to the franchise.

Congratulations to Adam. He's easily the greatest defenseman of the Avalanche era, in terms of service to the team.

7.5 seasons for the greatest goalie of all time. Forsberg was with the team from 1994-2004. One of those seasons was with Quebec and he missed a full regular reason but did comeback in the playoffs. Then he had two more brief stints with the team. Two great players, one of them is already a HOF'er and the other one should be a first ballot HOF'er as well. Roy and Forsberg absolutely deserve to have their jerseys retired. I don't know how that's "low standards".

Foote isn't a HOF'er and won't go down as one of the best but he was a huge part of this franchise. I can see why some might not agree with it but I think he deserves it.

Yeah, I know they were good players. But I don't think anything they did for any other franchises should matter. And I think 10+ seasons with this team should be an absolute minimum. But... It's not like it a big deal. I just wish the standards were higher.

like i guess if bourque is up there right?

i personally don't like it, i wish they did something else , like honour them in some other way.

i have no suggestion on how this should be done.

i don't like it. i love Foote but Forsberg,Sakic and Roy to me are the only ones who should have their #'s retired. Borque was a special case so it's less of a issue.

Borderline?

2 Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe Trophy, 8 Division Titles.

His 262 wins with Colorado would place him 43rd overall in NHL History, right above Ken Dryden. His 81 career post-season wins with the Avalanche would place him 6th overall in NHL History, again right above Ken Dryden.

Patrick Roy is the best player to ever play for this franchise. Sakic was the face of the franchise, but this guy was the best. Easily.
