Is an absolute embarrassment for a blueline. Maybe one of the worst 2-6 of all time? My hockey history isn't that great, but I can't imagine there has ever been much worse.
Oh dear, my friend, being a fan of the Sens has been too kind to you. The Habs, during the Dark Years, had some bad line-ups. Rejoice in looking up the defence corps for years 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 here.

I note that while some of those names went on to establish themselves as top 4 (or better, in Markov's case), they were at the time definitely not what they became. Some weak sauce there, and Ottawa at least has a respectable top 4 if the season started tomorrow.

As for trading for Weber, unless someone in management happens to be high on him, there's no need to trade for him, as they will find probably find a journeyman or waiver casualty of equal or better quality for free by the time the season starts. In fact, I'm not even sure Weber will make the 23 man roster, so he might very well end up on waivers.

personally I would rather pony up more and go after someone that can fit into the long term plan, Edler or Gormley for example.

Maybe revisit the Hjalmarsson trade too.

I hate having to trade Weber for spare parts, as he is already an NHL defencemen, but with Diaz, Kaberle, Markov and Subban we have a lot of offensive defencemen on the small side. He has an awesome point shot, but he had trouble being succesful with it last season.

If there is enough room to keep him in the pressbox this season i'd keep him.

Dunno, Habs have 8 D now, and not all of them are sure bets... ? Well, there's no way I'd do the deal right now, anyway. Sign PK, get everybody through their physicals and camp healthy, then maybe. Keeping St-Denis as #8 instead of Weber would be an option. But... a 3rd isn't much. Underwhelming for now.

I don't see a huge benefit in moving for Y.W. if we're picking up a defenceman it should be someone better or someone free.
Oh no you don't!

Emelin and Diaz were rookie the last season but I have to admit that Y. Weber was worse than them

I said 2-6: obviously having Karlsson makes our defense reasonable.

no, what's disheartening is that he can't hit the net with it, or keep the puck in the zone during a powerplay...

that said, im one of the few habs fan who would like to at least give him another chance since he is pretty much the only guy with a strong shot we have in montreal AND hamilton. he is still young and wasn't yet put in good situation. but diaz might already be ahead of him so....

back on topic, a second or i'd hold on to him

For Zibanejad I would be willing to move Gormley and Summers. Gormley is likely ready and Summers is pretty much NHL ready and I would say is at the very least a #7 guy, if not a #5 or #6 guy on many teams. Both are young and could continue to develop with the team. I see center as a glaring hole for the coyotes so while that's a steep payment (one many coyotes fans wouldn't make because I'm overpaying quite a bit), I would be willing to do it.

Would you do it?

I'd do Weber for a 3rd, for sure.
Am I crazy to think that if I'm paying a 3rd rounder, I want Diaz instead?

I like Diaz MUCH more than I like Weber. Am I in the minority here?

I dislike the idea of moving Zibanejad, but for Gormley & Summers I'd do it. We'd be trading from an organizational position of strength to fill an organizational weakness.

I think Silfverberg has overtaken Zibanejad on the "untouchables" list. I don't want to move either of them, but I'd be more willing to move Sibby than Silf.

Also: I have a man-crush on Gormley, so there's that. Let's get the paperwork done.

Yes, yes you are crazy

For the record Weber wasn't a rookie last season, he just plain sucked.

Of course a 1st for Diaz is delusional, but I'd ask more than a 3rd for him though.
