Hopefully not Bozak. With the lack of NHL center talent the leafs currently have, we need are "#1" center. The trade would fill our goalie needs clearly, but would widen the hole at center.
If he does go hopefully Burke has something lined up that brings in a 1C.
but having a top goalie makes it easier to attract that center
Just a guess? Burke and Gillis had a handshake deal on Lu prior to the lockout, as Shannon said. Another team comes in in the past couple of days, upping the ante. Gillis tells Burke. Burke goes to new ownership looking for approval on a better offer, or flat out tells ownership he won't increase offer.
Ownership says no way and, given the relationship Burke has had with the media at times, ownership (oddly enough, media) show him the door.
This happened out of nowhere. Something went down.

This team needs a #1 goalie, maybe Burke wasn't working hard enough for one. Like I've said, Nonis loves Luongo we'll see what happens.

I think it's a big part of it. Apparently Kypreos said when it came down to it, the Luongo situation had "too many hands at the steering wheel" Owners wanted something, Burke wanted another direction,
No, but it could have been the final straw. I could see Burke butting heads with Keith Pelley, and no matter what, Burke isn't going to win that battle.
With new ownership you have to imagine they wanted to make a big splash and to make the playoffs, can't imagine they are the ones that wanted to "tank" or stay the course of building through the draft.
I may be in the minority here but I have to give Burke credit if he stood firm on something he believed strongly in and was fired as a result. Whatever else you want to say about the man (and he has both his positives and negatives to be sure) that takes guts.
I understand that Brian Burke was fired. Dave Nonis potentially taking over is simply a possibility, and likely one considering timing.
Luongo is absolutely a short-term investment. He's a guy who's going to hold maximum value immidiately, and be a declining asset until the day he retires.
@nickkypreos on SNET: Leafs still have interest in Luongo.

I thought (and still think) Burke was the ideal GM for this market, just like he was in Van. A no nonense kind of guy who didn't back down from a heavy media presence.
He got crucified for the Kessel deal, but I still do not think it was as bad as people make it out to be. Burke was banking on the team being a middle of the pack team at worst. That happens, the trade looks a lot different.
If my aunt had nuts, she'd be my uncle. If is the biggest word in our vocabulary.
-happened this morning
-Board decision
-email sent out this morning saying Burke wouldn't be on flight to meetings
-Shannon says if Nonis is in charge, who likes Lu better than Nonis?
-hasn't heard reason
-can you imagine someone walking in and telling Brian what to do, imagine Burke's reaction. May have been a personality thing more than anything

Agree 110%. I am not a fan of Burke but he was hired to make hockey decisions. If he was fired due to his poor record overall? Then fine. If he was fired over a dispute about one deal? That is a big problem. Who is going to want to be GM in TO if their head could be on the chopping block over one trade. While I don't like Burke and I am not a fan of the Leafs, MLSE just made a big mistake by firing Burke ( if it exclusively a loungo dispute).
The balance of power just switched to Gillis BIG time if Burke was fired for not wanting to give up pieces for Luongo. Nonis will be under pressure to get a deal done. Could see a really nice trade for Vancouver.
Why do you guys want Roberto Luongo so bad? The last time he was in a Stanley Cup Finals, he got bludgeoned. You think he is going to help win you a Championship? I don't think so.
