I don't recall Gardiner being mentioned by name, it's possible I missed it though.

I do know that Nonis never said that the massive impact left by Burke was a actually good one, though.

Although I'd much prefer Lupul or JVR to Gardiner, tbh.

Great, then Toronto is not getting Luongo. If that works for everyone, close'r up. We're done here.

Or in typical Leaf fashion. "What you think is irrelevant. Only the GM's opinion matters." Good news for us now.

Really, just curious as to why, kadri seems to have more tools to his game. I can see why frattin would fit better with the Sedins tho

Something happened? Yes, a CBA was signed and a season was confirmed.

As mentioned, there's no need to fire a guy (especially a volatile personality like Burke) if you can accomplish the same thing without doing so.

Remember, there's basically 7 guys who are "above" Brian Burke in the MLSE structure -- Tom Anselmi and the 6 members of the board -- 2 of which are the CEOs of 2 of the biggest media conglomorates in Canada. You really believe they're going to take action over a trade that one guy may or may not make?

Not often that management will admit to personality conflicts, they basically did that here, and you're still questioning it?

The fact anyone thinks Burke got fired solely cause he wouldn't trade for Luo is hilarious.

If what Canucks fans are asking for is anywhere near realistic, then I can only hope he gets traded to Florida as soon as possible because dear god.

Could it be that those personality conflicts came to a head over discussing a deal for Luongo, and this wasn't decided in August?

Replace the figurehead? The board took over in August. They thought it best not to do something during the lockout. So the question is why now? Why not wait for another losing season to commence? Why before the start of the season and the Luongo trade decision come down the pipeline?

Then there's the reports from Mirtle, Cox and Spector...

This is not change for change's sake. Nonis and Burke are polar opposites in how they do things. Deals for goalies is a major aspect of that disparate methodology.

I agree part of a bigger problem but the Luongo situation answers the "why now?" part of the equation. They could have let Burke putter on through this shortened season if they didnt feel the need for immediate action, and with Nonis seemingly handling a large part of the responsibilites up to now there wouldnt have been much difference. This big move taking place now just before the ability to makes transactions opens up again suggests they have something they want to do that he wasnt willing to.

I mean i could be completely wrong but based on him not selling vancouver future and based on the fact he said he has more patience then burke I don't see him selling our future he doesn't have that history. Do think you get a better package now though maybe a 1st is involved

Just because Nonis happens to now be Toronto's GM does not mean Vancouver is going to get what they want in any Luongo trade...It is more than likely all this means is that the trade is going to happen, but the two young D men from Toronto are going nowhere. Nonis is a very cautious GM, he will not sell the house for Luongo.

I expect something like Bozak + mid level D man + mid level scoring winger/prospect coming back for Luongo.

So they've just been waiting around for months, waiting to fire Burke without any indications that this was their plan? Not bloody likely. This may have been building for a while but something happened and a new CBA is not that something.

Not just one trade, but this could've been the final straw. Perhaps upper management feels that they NEED to make the playoffs this season and Roberto Luongo is their best shot and Burke was unwilling to make that move. Nonis mentioned that they want to make moves to help acquire talent to push them in the right direction, to bridge the gap towards becoming a contender.

So why wait? Because they were hoping that the lockout would last the entire season and they wouldn't have to to do it until the summer? Get real.
