SJ-Toronto & EDM-Toronto

To Tor- Matt Irwin + 2015 1nd round pick.

To SJS- Joffrey Lupul + 10% cap space retained.

Burns moving to defense, Lupul goes and fills it up. with Thornton could hit 30 goals per season. also Lupul would waive his NTC to move to california.

Irwin becomes expendable as burns pushes him down depth chart. SJS has a couple of great defenseman already.
from Toronto's view. a nice mobile 2 way defenseman that has a nice shot from point. is also inexpensive with great posession numbers.

To Edmonton- Cody Franson and James Reimer + Peter Holland + Conditional 2015 1st round pick(if the leafs make the playoffs else 2016 1st round pick)

To Toronto- Victor Fasth + Nail Yakupov.

Edmonton find a way to get a nice powerplay guy on their team and another young goalie in James Reimer. James Reimer+ Ben Scrivens reunited under Dallas Eakins. Edmonton gets stronger as a whole with Cody Franson also in the mix. James Reimer needs a change of scenery and this just might do it. Peter Holland adds some nice size and center depth

Toronto gets rid of the whole controversy of James Reimer and get a nice servicable backup in Victor Fasth who could also play more games in case of injury to Bernier.
Nail Yakupov is a nice addition to Toronto, who like Reimer gets a change of scenery and gets to play with a great creative center in Kadri.
Toronto loses Peter Holland, but he is easily replaced by all the cheap free agents we signed this summer.
Toronto also loses Cody Franson but has Irwin to take his place on powerplay. with Granberg coming up with Percy on the side, this is an easy player to give up as a piece for Yakupov.

I wouldn't trade Yakupov alone for that package. It's been said a million times, but there is still no reason for the Oilers to give up Yakupov for a bunch of pieces.

Not interested in Lupul nor in giving a 1st round pick in 2015 for him.

not bad value for SJ, but we jost got rid of one winger made of glass, we don't need another. Also, Matt Irwin is not ready for the 2nd pairing. NEVER trust EA Sports with player ratings.

Holy Hyperbole!

Leafs make both those trades easily. Yakupov is worth more than parts. Fasth is not > Reimer, and Franson is the leafs latest whipping boy, but he is recognizably a #5 dman

Doug Wilson won't trade first round picks anymore, he's intent on drafting all the Ty Wisharts and Lukas Kaspars from now on.

Not interested in Lupul. Lupul = Havlat and we just got rid of that guy.

And before leafs fans come in an get all indignant at the Havlat/Lupul comparison... (heck they even had identical contracts)

This is slightly out of date since I did this during last year when it came up. But it's not worth my time to update it and it's still relevant, not much has changed and hey! Lupul was injured in the time between when I did this and now, further proving my point.
Quote:
Martin Havlat from ages 24-29 (2005-2011):
- Played only 341 of his team's 492 games or 69%. That comes out to an average of 56 games per year.
- During the time he was on the ice (341 games) he scored 113 goals to average .33 goals per game and 293 points for an average of .86 points per game.

Joffrey Lupul from ages 24-29 (2007-2013):
- Played only 294 of his team's 453 games or 65%. That comes out to an average of 49 games per year. (Yes one of those years was last year's lockout shortened season. However, even if I added the missing 33 games and gave him the benefit of the doubt to assume he would have played all of them it comes out to an average of 55 games per year.)
- During the time he was on the ice (294 games) he scored 105 goals to average .36 goals per game and 226 points for an average of .77 points per game.

They are the same player (or Havlat was slightly better at the same age, but whatever I'm not wasting my breath arguing that one lol). And though very good and offensively productive when on the ice, Havlat has found it even harder to stay healthy as he's gotten older, the ages that Lupul is currently entering. Maybe Lupul will manage better (update: nope still getting injured), but considering his similar injury-prone history, I wouldn't trade valuable pieces for him.

Yes, there is no reason to have good depth. Just ask the LA Kings!

The real goal is to ice 12 top 6 forwards under the age of 25 and try to work your way out of a bottom 3 pick.

San Jose isn't going to trade a first for a glass man. Especially with the chance of their first being high.

Problem is making that trade makes us a worse team in the long run, we give up the best pieces of that trade for depth players who really are not a upgrade over what he already have. Not a real smart move for the Oilers.

[mod] It's a flat out miserable offer that does NOTHING for Edmonton.

You want depth?

Ewanyk Lander and Davidson for Nylander.

We're happy with our 2 goalies.

Even if we needed a back-up goalie we wouldn't give up Yak for that package.

I can understand not wanting to move Yakupov for for anything listed there, but that's where your post lost its way. Fasth vs Reimer? They're both 1B goalies, perhaps arguable who is better right now. Reimer is signed for an extra year at a cheaper rate, and he's the bigger, younger more high upside option.

Whether you want him on your team or not, Franson's a bottom pairing guy at worst, and one who has shown he is capable of being much more.
