2014 Soccer Fantasy Draft - Discussion Thread

I was thinking about doing another one like I hosted a couple of summers ago and was wondering if anyone was interested? However I'm going to need some serious judges this time around because it was a disaster last time as the judges bailed.

I'm still pissed about the last draft, I really thought I had the best team

After me, you mean?
I had Falcao, Thiago Silva, Lahm, Hamsik, Gotze, Lavezzi, Thiago Motta, Gervinho, Sirigu, Mandanda, Dzagoev, Matuidi, Toulalan, etc...
I think I was the only one to have 3 guys who are arguably the best at their position (Falcao, Silva, Lahm). I also had two of the best DM in the game (Matuidi and Motta).

I'll play again.

My Shakhtar had a great attack, midfield, GK, terrible defense. I was also well ahead of the boat on Willian. Those central midfield bench players are pretty good too

I'm down.

Had fun last time. Especially when one of the GM's blew up their team and went all in on Serie A players.

I'll join in this time. Just out of curiosity wasn't the last one 12 hours between picks?

I'll try again. Had a nice mix of veterans and youngsters.

I'd be down as long as it's a build-a-team thing and not a fantasy sports thing.

Would we be building our teams to win for one year, 3, 5, or just best position to succeed, however the judges choose to interpret that?

I prefer to have a 3 to 5 year outlook since i generally pick young teams who are ready to run and press like kloppo's boys, but would be game either way.

I can judge if you want someone reliable for that.

I'm willing to judge, and I'd probably be able to enlist help from my friends that go to school with me

I'd be in again Matty if you've got room and you'll have me. Heck we can even use the same rules.

Now boys, the line clearly started behind me:

I'm still pretty happy with that team. A few changes I'd make, but not very many. Isco at the end of the 24th round and Varane in the 25th round.

I second the nomination.

It'd be up to Matty, but last time the strength of the team present day and in the future was to be judged along with plenty of other things like team chemistry, tactics, etc.

Haha, you're very much a Barca fan, because that D is weak (among the starters).

The team I made this summer on another board would've destroyed:

Although I ended up putting Rossi into El Sha's spot.

FW - Alan Dzagoev
FW - Erik Lamela
FW - Giuseppe Rossi

MF - Marek Hamsik
MF - Moussa Dembele
MF - Ilkay Gundogan

LB - David Alaba
CB - Mats Hummels
CB - Angelo Ogbonna
RB - Rafael

GK - Roman Weidenfeller

BENCH:
FW - Seydou Doumbia
FW - Stephan El Sharaawy
MF - Igor Denisov
LB/LW - Dmitri Kombarov
DM/CB/FB/human-swiss-army-knife - Phil Jones

Ain't nobody winning the midfield battle against that team or surviving our pressing.

Hey now, that's harsh. And here I seconded your nomination. I mean as of right now and since then Puyol's been struggling with injuries, but a Vertonghen-Varane partnership would be great if Varane is fully fit. Mascherano in front of them. Alves and Adriano at the back positions. Hell, Santon's stats were great last year. Better than almost all of his bigger name peers in the PL in some categories. Ditto for Dede. On top of that Valdes has had an amazing season. D really isn't weak at all if everyone is fully fit.

I wouldn't mind a new striker. Not sure it'd ruin my team without one considering the ability of the strikers I grabbed and the rest of my attack. I also have creativity in spades.

Also would go back and change a lower depth player or two, but my team still holds up.

Did I mention 6 of my picks were in the 24th and 25th round?
