Would rather see Svatos make the Panthers than Kovalev.

Seriously?

I'm not sure whether to laugh or not... He won't fit in at all!

He's right up there with Andrei Kostitsyn and Aki Berg.

Strange how he loves to play hockey so much... yet he plays like all he cares about is himself.

Strange man, total enigma.

He wasn't good enough to play for his KHL team last year.

Panthers have a few guys injured right now so this makes sense...throw as much "stuff" at the wall and whatever sticks should help. It was rumored before or during the lockout that Kovalev was gonna get an chance with the Panthers so this was in the making for a while now too.

Aki Berg had the IQ of my desk, so you couldn't be mad at him, it was like trying to be mad at Forest Gump. You can't be mad at simple folk.

Kovalev is frustrating because he has so much talent, but he only tries when he wants to try. That is usually if someone shows him up at some point in the game, he will hustle all out to score a goal and then go back to his nonchalant play.

Met the guy a few times. Really witty, fun guy. One quote he told me really stayed with me, and I'll try to paraphrase it as best as I can remember:

"The best way to survive in Soviet Union was to play along with them: they pretend to pay you, and you pretend to work".

He was too young to have ever really "worked" during the Soviet era (Berlin wall fell when he was like 16 or so), but he said it was a very common joke. I don't know why, but I "got" Kovalev a lot more after I heard him say it.

This made me smile. As a Leaf fan, I know all too well of the accolades of one Mr Aki Berg.

I can't believe it....really can't believe it. I love the makeup of the Panthers, so much to like. If I were Tallon, I'd let a wet behind the ears rookie make it and fail before I gave Kovalev a shot. So much to dislike with Kovalev.

Good for him, he can still help a team out and hopefully he gets a better ending to his career.

I don't see the issue with letting him tryout. He has a high talent level and if motivated he can help the young panthers. If he doesnt play well cut him not like hes going to make alot of money. Worth the risk imo

If they don't want him, I gotta say I would give him a shot again in Montreal. He just did great things for us while he was here, he was exciting to watch especially in the playoffs, and he really liked it here (and people genereally loved him too).

I hope he doesn't make it. Horrible influence on Huberdeau.

Ahahah Kovy, stop!
This is the player who scored less than Jon Mirasty last year!
I mean, among all Russian players, Kovalev must be the least appealing for the NHL teams. Tryout won't hurt, and he'll be better on small ice, but the guy's DONE.
