Well, I was super annoyed last year and will be this year. This is the perfect time to "rebrand" the franchise. In fact, they shoulda done it last year

Man. I just realized that tomorrow there will be a Game Day Thread. GDT is a thread where we can discuss about a hockey game! Minnesota Wild play hockey, we watch it and we can post at the same time! We can discuss about passes, shots, goals, saves, hits, penalties, powerplays, penalty killing, lines, defensive pairings, goalies, Nordy, LaPanta, red jerseys..

Man, it's huge!

Do any of my fellow Finns know whether there's a bar open that shows the game? I assume not, as it's quite late, but would be nice.

With the NoDak/UMN game closing in, don't expect Gopher to post a GDT anytime soon. Just sayin'.

I'm fine with Dumba staying for a few games, be a good experience for him. Hope Gilbert is truly fine though.

Kyle Brodziak's Career Transactions:
Acquired by Minnesota along with a sixth round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft (Darcy Kuemper) from Edmonton in exchange for a fourth round pick (Kyle Bigos) and fifth round pick (Olivier Roy) in 2009 Entry Draft, June 27, 2009; Selected by Edmonton in the seventh round (214th overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft.
Bigos & Roy for Brodziak & Kuemper?

Wild Season Opener: Here At Last

Quote:
There is a reason Wild players have been issued undershirts that read, "Take the next step. No excuses."

The expectation is the Wild will end its string of early offseasons.

"Talent-wise, depth-wise, character-wise, we're there," coach Mike Yeo said. "But the biggest thing for us to understand is that next step is the hardest step."
Quote:
"There's definitely a different atmosphere as far as expectations, and I think that they're warranted expectations," said center Matt Cullen, 36. "The time is now to make a move. This is my third year [here] and we haven't been close at the end of the year.

"Now we have a legitimate shot. Anything but making a serious playoff run would be a disappointment."
Quote:
The first line will be Mikko Koivu centering Parise and Dany Heatley, while rookie Mikael Granlund centers Cullen and Devin Setoguchi. That leaves two of the better third and fourth lines in the league -- Brodziak between Cal Clutterbuck and Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Konopka centering Darroll Powe and Mitchell.

"Their forward lines seem stacked," said former Wild sniper Brian Rolston.

But defensively, the Wild looks thin. Suter and Tom Gilbert are veterans. But Jared Spurgeon, Clayton Stoner, Justin Falk, Nate Prosser and the injured Marco Scandella have combined for only 450 NHL games.

Dumba and Brodin are next up. They might be future stars, but now, they're just inexperienced teenagers.
Quote:
Fletcher knows he might need to address the blue line.

"[Former NHL General Manager] Brian Burke used to tell me, 'After the 20-game mark, you need to really evaluate your team and see what you need to do,' " Fletcher said. "Well, the 20-game mark this year may be too late. In this type of season, you've got to take advantage of every game and every day to get better.

"If players aren't performing this season, you're going to have to make adjustments more quickly than you normally would. That's not a threat. That's just reality. In 48 games, you can't allow 20, 25, 30 games to go by and say, 'OK, we can make a move now.'

"You have to have some patience, but this year, we won't hesitate to look elsewhere or to Houston if players are not up to expectations."

Pretty sure there isn't, as the game starts 4 AM here.

Also, whats so bad about the red jersey? I think the red jersey is actually quite beautiful.

And then we have Scoggins writing that Nobody should view Koivu as the Wild's 3rd wheel

Who in their right mind would think that Koivu is a 3rd wheel on this team in the first place?!!?? Scoggins is trying to create something that is not there and was never there in the fans eyes to begin with.

DUMBA is staying in the event he can't find a replacement should he discover Bad Falk is playing more often than Good Falk and Prosser hasn't shown any improvement. Are you going to bank on Scandella healing fully? Scandella? I'm very high on Brodin but he too is coming off injury and is new to NA hockey. Who do we have in houston? yeah, raw recruit Dumba looks better.

Yep, that's what I thought too. A shame, really. Would've been nice to maybe gather some Finns up and go watch the season opener on a bar somewhere in... Helsinki, maybe?

Oh well.

Some people view Suter and Parise both being better than Koivu.

Gilbert says he's ggod to go

Quote:
-- Tom Gilbert (groin) says he is "good to go," meaning Matt Dumba likely won't make his NHL debut.
Quote:
-- Coach Mike Yeo said Matt Kassian will likely not play, but Yeo did say that if Colorado brought a tough lineup, which may include minor-league fighter Patrick Bordeleau, than Kassian may be in the lineup. My guess: If that's the case, maybe Darroll Powe won't play because Kassian could take his left-wing spot and Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell are a PK pair.

Yeah, tried to find a bar last season to watch the Anaheim - WPG game (Selänne returned to WPG). We couldn find a single bar that showed the game even though the game started 1 AM.

It sucks its so hard to watch NHL hockey in this country..

Well, lets hope the Wild starts some season again in Helsinki in the future.

There's a lot of ignorant hockey fans out there that disregard the Wild. Doesn't surprise me.
