2005 NHL draft

Over at the Prospects board they are suggesting the NHL will hold a weighted lottery draft for all 30 teams. Is this true?

It's reported by Fox Sports. According to them we are currently playing hockey.

And this 'report' would only take place if a new CBA is put in place by the draft, which I don't think will happen.

according to bill daly they will have a weighted lottery with all 30 teams, but he didn't explain what he means by that.

will tb be able to jump all the way from #30 to #1?? will only non-playoff teams be able to jump to #1?? will teams move up a max 5 spots?? will they only use the lottery to determine the 1st pick or all 30 spots?? etc

lots of unknowns, really the only thing that daly cleared up is that they won't use the same draft order as last year again.

and there is also the possibility that prospects like crosby could take the league to court and fight to become free agents if the draft isn't held in june, and if the court rules in their favor than all 2005 eligible prospects would become free agents...an extremely unlikely situation but possible.

Remember, this is only if their is a new CBA in place for June. So let's not get all worked up, now.

no this is whenever they put a new cba in place...eventually there will be a new cba and the lockout will end, and when that happens they will hold the draft. if the lockout ends in august then they will hold the draft in august/september and the same things would apply.

You know, if the ranger's did manage to jump up in a lottery to #1 we'd never hear the end of it, even if it was legit.

and with Sidney Crosby for the next 20 years, I could not care less what others say. Worked well with Ewing.

I wasn't saying that I wouldn't take the help, just that there is no way the rangers get the pick without massive amounts of critcism.

honestly though, having sidney crosby on our team would benefit the nhl greatly. with the increased attention we would get, the whole nhl would get more people interested again. and after the crap that's going on now, this would only be a positive.

it would be huge for the NHL and it would be huge for the Rangers and it would be huge for Crosby.

Yeah cause we have tons of prospects at Sidney's level. We need him just as much as any other team thinks they need him.

first toronto is one of the top teams year after year, the rangers have been awful. so from that standpoint alone the rangers need him more because the rangers have to get back to being good which is a lot harder than staying there like the leafs have to do.

and in terms of generating more revenue, the leafs have 103% attendance...crosby or no crosby, winning or losing, the last thing anyone has to worry about is toronto not being successful in terms of drawing fans and revenue.

of course just like every other team, toronto would love to get crosby no matter what the impact is.

I've read in a few places that they're gonna do a re-organization of the teams based on overall record over the last three seasons, then run the lottery the same way they usually do. Here's the draft order based upon that.

1. Columbus
2. Pittsburgh
3. Florida
4. Atlanta
5. NYRangers
6. Carolina
7. Chicago
8. Nashville
9. Washington
10.Buffalo
11.Anaheim
12.Phoenix
13.Calgary
14.Minnesota
15.Los Angeles
16.Montreal
17.Tampa Bay
18.NYIslanders
19.Edmonton
20.San Jose
21.St. Louis
22.Boston
23.Dallas
24.Vancouver
25.Toronto
26.New Jersey
27.Philadelphia
28.Ottawa
29.Colorado
30.Detroit

the problem I have with this it that teams like Columbus, Pittsburgh, Florida and Atlanta already benefitted from top 2 picks and they will be rewarded again? I'd have to say Chicago and NYR are two of the worst teams in the NHL. I'd be happy with the Rangers getting the #5 lottery slot anyway.

That's not what I got from the article...
