A) not happening

He hasn't played in the NHL. Subban IS a top pairing defencemen. Schultz may end up better, but you cant exactly get a ton more than subban is giving, if you do, youre in norris territory.

I would not trade any of our young guns for Subban, I feel that he is over rated and sounds like he wants too much money. See things never change, the lockout is over and the top players want it all and the 3rd and 4th guys will suffer.

Zajac at 5.75mil is crazy, glad we got Eberle and Hall at 6mil. Hope we will still get RNH at 6mil.

As long as he doesn't have some kinda amazing season that blows hall and ebs out of the water and thats gonna be hard with a short season i doubt theres anything to worry about.

The point is that the Devils are paying him based on what he did 2 seasons ago. Based on the last 2 seasons, that term and cap hit is way too much IMO.

Kesler for instance who i think is a better player got 5 mil/yr over 6 years and that was in a rising cap world. That would be the max that i would have expected Zajac to get.
8 years $46 mil is crazy money for Zajac. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player who i would have loved to have on the Oilers but he is not worth that amount of money.

It seems like Lamorillo panicked due to losing Parise and felt forced to overpay Zajac out of fear of losing another important player.
It seems to parallel the Oilers situation when Lowe panicked and overpaid to keep Horcoff due to fear of losing him like he did with Smyth. At least Horcoff came off of a 73 pt season and an All Star season. Zajac has just had 2 down years.
Thats exactly what I thought of when I heard about the signing

lol. I just laugh, the players were locked out for half a year becuase they were going to get rotten deal and never get paid. ...... then a week after they sign, Zajac gets 6 mill.

sigh..

Subban is way over rated on this board, not sure why. He is solid and I would love to have him, but, ya.. not worth that much.

He had 38 and 36 points in his first two seasons as a defenseman. He was also a +9 on a BAD team last year. For some reason +/- is the most important stat on earth on HF when its convenient for it to be.

Yet Sam Gagner was + 5 on a bad team and is some how horrible defensivly. Not sure why.

Horcoff was -23 and is considered to be good defensively.

As a stat it lacks a lot of context, and it is pretty easy to dismiss when convenient.

The shine is starting to come off of Lou.

First he missed the day to forfeit his first round pick (29th overall) rather then next years. Then this signing, crazy.

So Mirtle is squawking on Twitter again about how Phil Kessel is a lock for a 7.5 per year contract after the Zajac signing. What was this lockout for again?

Mirtle says that the money is justified based on the fact that Kessel is in the top five for goals scored over the past four seasons.

I started doubting him coming off the last lock out when he made those two large offers to the two UFA defensemen (Malakhov and McGillis) which were both brutal.

Bottom line though is he has good scouting and know what it takes to make a winning line-up (+ having Brodeur forever doesn't hurt). While I think Lou is a way better GM than Tambo, who I have never been the biggest fan of I will have to admit for the stage we are in right now in this franchise Tambellini is probably a better GM to have than Lou. I don't think sitting on your hands and waiting to build a winner through the cream of the crop draft selections would sit very well with Lou.

He's 8th in goals and 11th in goals per game according to hockey reference.

I'll believe the Devils lose that pick when I see it.

Don't know what Laimorello was thinking with that deal.

Tambellini should strike now and try to get Larsson for Peckham.
