So I remember reading here a while ago from others that Merrill isn't having all that good of a season, and isn't developing all that well (he was injured for a bit wasn't he?). I'm wondering if he'll be in Michigan next year or will he step up to the pros?

He missed the first 19 games of the season after sustaining an injury in a preseason tilt. Michigan's been all kinds of awful this year, so it's been tough to gauge how much progress Merrill's made. In his first official game back, they only used Merrill to try to jump start their anemic PP. I watched his second game and he seemed a bit tentative. Watched a game a month later and Merrill seemed to be operating at full speed again.

I know some are disappointed with the point production, but Michigan's using 4 forwards on their top PP unit with Jacob Trouba at the top of the umbrella. This has relagated Merrill to the 2nd PP unit with some subpar forwards.

Most of us are hoping he turns pro, if only so he can get accustomed to the pro schedule. At this rate, he would have played more games during his freshman year than his sophomore/junior years combined.

I only watched two Michigan games this year but that whole team looks horrible. They had no system, no support, and had no idea where to put pucks or position defensively. I don't think I could gauge anything about Merrill based on those games because the team was so bad.

To link this to an earlier post, I'd rank Gelinas ahead of Merrill in my prospect rankings. Merrill may have greater upside but Gelinas is putting together nice seasons at a higher level of competition so we have a better idea that Gelinas can hack it.

Gelinas is NHL ready from the games I went to in Albany during the lockout which I went to around 8 or so.

I don't think he or Urbom would have looked too out of place starting the year in Newark.

Offensive upside, definitely. But up until last season, Gelinas was known for not being too reliable in his own zone. He might have a little tougher transition to the pro game in his own end.

It's a shame Merrill went back for another year. Terrible team, diminished role, injuries and drama...He's played a grand total of 72 games in 3 years.

He could be quarterbacking a PP in Albany with Gelinas right now and getting used to the schedule. He really looks disinterested right now, which isn't good for a 21 year old who has yet to play at the pro level.

My guess is that Gelinas replaces Zidlicky next year.

If he looks disinterested as a pro, then get back to me. Can't imagine he's too happy with his situation right now. He knows he could've been making money in Albany this season and working on his game.

He looks much better this year defensively as we all know stats don't tell the story he is the #1 D-man in Albany by far Urbom looked good but Gelinas bails out Urbom so much or at least he was at the games I went to.

Boucher adds a goal and an assist a little over half way through the 3rd.
